I would not vote Conservative, but I don't trust Labour not to open the floodgates to yet more people who really don't like us and want to do us harm. Who to vote for - any ideas?

Galaxy Thu 23-May-24 15:05:08

I think gender is a range of oppressive stereotypes that inflict harm on men and women. I am not going to embrace it in the same way I wont embrace racist stereotypes
We have watched various politicians destroy their careers by talking nonsense on this issue. That question of what a woman is will be asked pretty early on in this campaign, starmer needs not to talk nonsense when asked it.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 23-May-24 15:05:24

Cossy yes it is both insulting and incorrect to women that men with or without surgery suddenly feel like a women

Honestly, I’m far more interested in what Starmer, Sunak and the other parties are going to do about the state of this country, education, NHS, homeless, people traffickers, armed forces, the police, the economy, crime etc etc etc than I am about their views on transgender people.

We don’t need to refer to the transgender agenda as “nonsense”

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 23-May-24 15:12:33

I expect this ‘commercial taxation’ will become clear as we hear more from Starmer. I can’t imagine a tax on a commercial entity which won’t feed its way through to increased costs for the consumer, just as increased fuel costs did - but of course he wouldn’t want us to consider that, ‘commercial taxation’ sounds like something which will only affect big business. Like hell. I have said before that he works on the basis of what people want to hear and considers that most of the electorate are thick.

Absolutely no idea but I always vote as women died in order that we could.

Sunak was not elected and Keir Starmer isn't actually sure about what a woman is. What to do 🤔

You do realise that we vote for a party in a GE. Leader of said party is voted for by party members and party MPs. Not by the general public. So he was elected as per Parliamentary code.
I cannot understand how so many people are ignorant of this fact.
I didn't vote for Starmer, not a Labour party member, but unfortunately looks like he'll be the next PM.

Siope Thu 23-May-24 15:14:17

I doubt Sunak thought up the figure himself

As good as. It’s the Tory party’s own assessment of Labour spending proposals over the past few months. Hunt first cited that £2k figure a few weeks ago. It’s not, obviously, real since it’s not based on actual spending commitments, and it hasn’t been independently verified.

Boz Thu 23-May-24 15:21:27

I will probably vote Tory because I dislike Labour so much,

twinnytwin Thu 23-May-24 15:31:04

Because of the new boundary changes, our ward has been moved from a Labour constituency to a Tory one which I am very pleased about as I shall be voting Conservative, and hopefully will keep the MP in post. The thought of Labour being in government is an extreme worry to me.

What worries you?

keepingquiet Thu 23-May-24 15:51:30

I think what worries people most about the Labour party is that they might actually govern the country much better than the Tories have.

I don’t think Labour will come in and change things very much.

I think the country is in such a mess that it will take a very long time for things to improve. Nothing functions properly.🤷‍♀️

It’s not about how good this Labour lot are (not that good), it’s about how we need a change.

The Tories are stale, complacent, and out of ideas.

Any improvement would be good.

It's a dilemma isn't it?

We have had very good Tory MPs in the past but the current one is a bit of a lightweight. The Labour candidate comes across very well and I would probably vote for him on an individual basis but Keir Starmer, Angela Rayner and the rest of Labour's front bench worry me.

silverlining48 Thu 23-May-24 16:03:44

Why would anyone who has lived through the last 14 Tory years be confused about which party to vote for. It’s either more years of Tory disaster or Labour who can’t be any worse and almost certainly will be much better. Certainly better than any other party.

Bear in mind over the last 100 years Labour has only been in power for about 25 of those years, so the mess we are in has predominately been The conservatives mess.

It is difficult. My very good “old style” Tory MP is standing down, so I won’t be voting for him.

The country needs change from the chaos which started in 2019.

So, I will vote to get the Tories out.

The gender nonsense I referred too is the belief that it's possible to change sex; the erosion of women's spaces; biological men competing against women in sports and the language that pertains to women, being replaced with 'chest feeders', 'people who bleed' and 'people with a cervix'.

I am not comfortable with a PM from any party being either unable or unwilling to say what a woman is. Nor am I comfortable with the Green Party expelling members for speaking the truth that biology determines sex.

Astitchintime Thu 23-May-24 16:27:18

Monster Raving Looney Party........grin

Nicenanny3 Thu 23-May-24 16:27:24

I'd never vote Labour ever their Deputy Leader Angela Rayner is the Union Patsy, God help up having her represent us on the International Stage and yes I know she has done well for herself but only because of the Unions. Keir Starmer has no scruples he'll do and say anything to get into power/favour , remember the cringe worthy knee bending photo with him and Rayner worshiping Black Lives Matter and as for David Lammy who has a chip the size of a brick on his shoulder no thanks.

I'm torn between voting Conservative or Reform.

Nicenanny3 Thu 23-May-24 16:31:14

Also I forgot the awful sneering Emily Thornberry who looked down her nose at the hard working white van man and the English Flag no thanks.

I’m with you on both of those issues. But, all this has come about during a Tory reign.

I wouldn’t vote Green, as I find them pointless, but I am sure that Starmer knows what a biological woman is. He’s married to one, and his daughter is another.

So, I’m voting for the NHS, and to end the chaos, and to try to improve things - even a little.

The Tories are so dire they need replacing - and Labour are the only ones that can do that. 🙂

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 23-May-24 16:34:06

Here are the Conservatives’ comments on the cost of Labour’s proposals.
public.conservatives.com/publicweb/Labour-tax-rises.pdf

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 23-May-24 16:37:19

Starmer might know what a biological woman is, but he seems to have difficulty with the notion that such a person cannot have (or have had) a penis.

Galaxy Thu 23-May-24 16:45:27

Diamond lily is absolutely right, the Tories were supporting self ID not so long ago, it has happened under their watch.

silverlining48 Thu 23-May-24 16:46:09

What the Conservatives comments on Labour proposals are is totally irrelevant.
Instead of criticising Labour their time might be better spent examining their own, too many to list, failings.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 23-May-24 16:47:25

Don’t just pass them off as irrelevant. Read and consider.

Grannybags Thu 23-May-24 16:48:08

I've voted Conservative all my adult life but I have been in such a dilemma as I can't vote for them this time and have been trying to come to terms with having to vote Labour to get the Tories out.

However my constituency is changing due to boundary changes and my new MP would be JRM - all of a sudden it's an easy decision!
