Are you a longtime lurker? Love reading our threads but have never actually posted yourself? Then this is the week for you!

Simply say hello here, or post on one of our special lurkers’ week threads (which will all be listed here over the course of the week) and you could win one of our special prizes just for joining the fun.

What are the prizes, you ask? WELL <drumroll> we have an assortment of glorious goodies, from a limited-edition collection from Look Fabulous Forever, to a £50 voucher from the gorgeous jewellery retailer Merci Maman, from brilliant board games from John Adams to champagne glasses from Prezzybox and a year's supply of ebooks from Boldwood Books - and more! (Did we mention the money-can’t-buy, limited-edition Gransnet tea towels?!)

Posting is quick and easy - but if you have any questions, head over to our handy ‘getting started’ guide. This week we will also be running tips on how to get the most out of the site - and if you can't yet tell your DIL from your SIL, here's a handy guide to Gransnet acronyms.

Regular posters, fear not...as if we would leave you out of the fun. Seasoned gransnetters who extend the hand of friendship to newbies will also have their names put in the hat, just for being lovely people.

So welcome all. Don't be shy! Do post!

Say hello. Tell us what you like about Gransnet and join our warm and wonderful community. Happy posting!

GNHQ

I typically lurke because I live in the United States Central Time Zone (1 hour behind New York) and most of the activity on the conversations is over by the time I read them. I enjoy the conversations and am learning new ways to refer to everyday items. smile

But, hello everyone!

I'm mostly a lurker from South Norfolk!! I do post now and again but not regularly, although I'm on here most days.

Chookmama Mon 09-Mar-20 20:24:00

My first single was Bird Dog by the Everly Brothers when I was 10 - heavily influenced by my elder brother, who I thought was very cool.

Startingover61 Mon 09-Mar-20 20:40:38

I’m also a bit of a lurker, though I have posted a few times, usually in threads about relationships.

bridie54 Mon 09-Mar-20 20:45:51

Hello, I'm a lurker mostly. I always check out the days posts and did get some lovely and helpful responses to my first post. lol, it's the lure of the prize that got me this time :-)

CrazyGranny60 Mon 09-Mar-20 20:51:41

Lurker here. Have replied a couple of times but never posted. Too worried someone in my family will read it and guess who I am!

Ziggy1914 Mon 09-Mar-20 20:52:13

My favourite is my Tracksuit as it's nice to relax in and very snug and comfortable to wear.

Jellaway Mon 09-Mar-20 20:52:54

I am a lurker. I have posted but can never see my post so think that they must fail. Some threads are fascinating. But some attract very negative posters. There is enough bad stuff going on. Surely Gransnet is allowed to have some good stuff going on ?

Marydoll Mon 09-Mar-20 20:54:37

I feel I have to say this. For ages we had people complaining about too many active Games threads and asking how to hide them.
The site at the moment is being dominated by Lurker threads.

You have achieved what you set out to do GNHQ. Well done, a success! grin

Authoress Mon 09-Mar-20 21:32:12

Semi-lurker here... I may read the 4 thread titles a day that the newsletter sends me, but the rest of the site is a Deep Mystery smile

teepee55 Mon 09-Mar-20 21:36:01

Hi I enjoy reading the threads and have made a comment on a rare occasion

Milo27 Mon 09-Mar-20 21:41:46

Gary Glitter I love you love me love but it's hardly something to be celebrated now is it ?

Scooty413 Mon 09-Mar-20 22:05:53

I confess to being a lurker as I'm always frightened to be myself since a horrible divorce from a violent alcoholic. I'm so unconfident in myself but always positive and strong for everyone else. Thank you so much for your list of acronyms - they made me really LOL ??

boho43 Mon 09-Mar-20 22:07:40

Hi everybody,

I am a lurker although l do read this thread very regularly & feel like l ‘ know ‘ many of you. I have posted a couple of times.

I moved to Somerset at the end of last summer & love it. It is a completely different way of life to the life l had in Cornwall - even more laid back!

Are there any meet ups in South West Somerset?

I’m sure this thread will encourage more ladies ( & gents!) to join in - me included.

Long time lurker occasional poster here. Love reading all the news and messages of support

Maggiemaybe Tue 10-Mar-20 08:41:56

Welcome to all you lurkers/infrequent posters/newbies! thanks

I hope some of you aren’t being put off by the fact that you’re not getting individual replies now that you’ve posted. There are just so many all at once, but you can be sure that others are reading them and hoping you’ll keep posting and let us get to know you properly. smile

Hi, I’m a lurker but have occasionally posted. I glean advice from GN and the humour is uplifting. As there are regular posters, I have felt a little hesitant sometimes to post.

heavensjoys Tue 10-Mar-20 09:01:46

Hi Gransnetters, I do not post often, but I find I get so much from this site.

There is often lots of good news, sometimes very valuable information, though there has been some very sad news recently - true life laid bare, of course.

My first record purchase was Cilla Black, You’ve lost that lovin’ feeling’. I only bought that version, as the Righteous Brothers had sold out!!

olliebeak Tue 10-Mar-20 09:20:12

I'm a bit of a lurker - though I DO sometimes add the occasional comment.

Same as @jewelswalk - I've not had much response when I've posted. Perhaps I should try more often - I DO appreciate that many of the threads get quite long and maybe later responses 'get lost' in the length.

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 10-Mar-20 09:23:06

CrazyGrandma2

Is there a particular reason why GN doesn't allow any reaction to a specific post without having to write a comment? At least then you know that someone has read your post.

It's the restrictions of the system I'm afraid. It's the same on Mumsnet. We know that people would love like and edit buttons, but we don't have the wherewithal to facilitate these at the moment - but this is useful feedback, so thank you

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 10-Mar-20 09:24:13

And yes, as a couple of people have pointed out, sometimes conversations can move quickly and the odd post gets slightly buried - but please don't let this put you off posting again!

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 10-Mar-20 09:27:38

News on the winner of yesterday's featured prize winner coming up shortly. But welcome to day two grin and we are kicking off today with this thread...

What's the one beauty/grooming product you can't live without?

Grandyma Tue 10-Mar-20 09:54:44

Gransnet is a bit of a lifeline for me. I look forward to reading the posts but am not very confident about posting anything. I have replied to posters a few times if I felt I could answer a question. I am a lurker!! I am in awe of the wisdom of some members and when faced with certain problems I often ask myself “what would Gransnetters say”!! I am 66 yrs old with 2 adult dd’s and 2 dgs who are my world. I have a chronic lung condition and advanced osteoporosis so don’t get out very much but have hobbies to keep me busy and I love the garden. My dh is amazing and supports the whole family including doing the school run every morning and afternoon for our eldest dgs. and caring for an elderly relative who is approaching his 90’s. All this and caring for me and he is almost 80 himself!! Thank you Gransnet for supporting me through good days and bad. You are always there and I will try very hard in future to join in more and stop my lurking ??

cathyd Tue 10-Mar-20 10:23:26

I've been a lurker for a few years now and have commented on posts but have not posted myself
