The influence of Gransnet Daily

It is an interesting phenomenon how the mention of a thread as the title feature of Gransnet Daily often results in a massive increase in posts to a thread.

For example, today the thread

www.gransnet.com/forums/relationships/1301027-How-is-a-mother-in-law-addressed

is the title feature and lots of new posts have appeared.

Delia effect: yes, Delia Smith. A very famous and much beloved cook.
Quite simply, if she mentioned an ingredient or gadget, it sold in spades, often selling out.

nanna8 yes I watched the Bridge and loved it. I too thought Saga was ver engaging.

The term Aspergers is now frowned upon, and is not a diagnosis.
Instead the term Autistic Spectrum Disorder (or Condition) is used.

Mollygo Tue 21-Sept-21 10:18:58

Nanna8 I don’t know and I’m not interested. Best bet would be to look back through the thread or pm EP.
Aspergers makes life difficult, as I have reason to know, but people like that actress, or Monk the detective, Young Sheldon or The Big Bang Theory show how it affects life but how you can deal with it. The BBT also shows how infuriating it can be for others. I liked all those programs.

FannyCornforth Tue 21-Sept-21 10:19:45

Well, not quite ‘frowned upon’, but it’s not really used.
It used to refer to the more ‘high functioning’ end of the Spectrum.

I am currently watching atypical on Netflix about a teenager with autism, I am really enjoying it.

FannyCornforth Tue 21-Sept-21 10:22:01

My dad is on the Spectrum, as was his father.
My grandad would now be 102, so was not diagnosed, but he most certainly was.

FannyCornforth Tue 21-Sept-21 10:23:33

Galaxy a book that I wholeheartedly recommend to you is ‘George and Sam’ by Charlotte Moore (of course, you may have already read it!)

Galaxy

Is it good? Someone asked me if I'd seen it as she wanted perspective off someone who had experience of autism but I haven't even got round to looking at it.

Blossoming Tue 21-Sept-21 10:40:46

I haven’t received my ‘Gransnet Daily’ for today yet.

FannyCornforth Tue 21-Sept-21 10:44:53

Blossoming I wonder what’s ‘hit the jackpot’ today? Any guesses?

FannyCornforth Tue 21-Sept-21 10:45:58

I’m going for ‘Toy Shortage’ smile

I'm grin that good morning Tuesday is on there.

FannyCornforth Tue 21-Sept-21 10:54:24

The GM thread is always on.
I reckon that Mick has some sort of hold over the management

Galaxy Tue 21-Sept-21 10:54:28

I like it Jane, although I think it sometimes tries to put in every single 'characteristic' of someone with autism into one character. I really enjoy the young people in it, his best friend and sister are brilliant, I find the parents not so good but mainly because of the acting.

JaneJudge Tue 21-Sept-21 10:56:34

Ok, I'll give it a go if I get some time!

I hadn't realised the good morning thread was on every day!

Galaxy Tue 21-Sept-21 10:58:34

grin you arent spending enough time on GN. Stop having a real life you fool.

FannyCornforth Tue 21-Sept-21 11:00:28

Toy Shortage - not the best one in the Woody and Buzz franchise

Blossoming Tue 21-Sept-21 11:21:27

It’s arrived now. I hadn’t seen the ‘I thought this was worth passing on’ thread, so I guess that’s one thing I found useful today. It’s a good thread and I missed it.

It was a rather feeble joke, that’s all.
Please accept that I’m not some sort of dodge-pot Chewbacca!
