Is anyone else's screen infested with 'Gransnet videos', the current one called Am I Being Unreasonable? concerning a wedding? I have reported it.

Georgesgran Thu 13-Oct-22 08:37:25

As the expression goes ‘they are doing my head in!’. As soon as I click off, another arrives a few seconds later - Betty Crocker, IKEA, you name it!

Or offer us an ad free zone if we pay

A couple of years ago Mumsnet introduced Mumsnet Premium where you could pay in order to not get ads.
It was really unpopular.
I’m not sure what happened to it, as I migrated to GN about the same time, and I rarely go on it now.
I’m even less unlikely to go there now too, now I’m being pestered to at every turn!

Concordia Thu 13-Oct-22 08:44:55

This is what they look like on my Nokia 7.2
Irritating, aggravating and completely counter-productive if these posts are anything to judge by.
Goodbye, GN. I'm outta here.

MawtheMerrier Thu 13-Oct-22 08:52:31

I may be tempting fate, but somehow I don’t get them on the “big” iPad but DO on my mini and phone - so both settings , desktop and mobile and they annoy the hell out of me.

eazybee Thu 13-Oct-22 08:53:56

The adverts will improve as time goes on - we're sorry that some are dated. You should be able to close the advert by clicking the X button.
I DO NOT want the adverts AT ALL

The cross to delete does not appear on the large ones inserted into the thread and I should not have to delete them anyway because I do not want to see them in the first place.

Is this type of advert intended to be a permanent feature?

If having to tolerate these adverts is the price for accessing Gransnet, it is most definitely not worth it.

Parsley3 Thu 13-Oct-22 08:56:45

They are very annoying. I hope they disappear soon.

Grannynannywanny Thu 13-Oct-22 09:04:02

I didn’t have the annoying videos until yesterday. But they’re coming thick and fast now. Very distracting and annoying.

FannyCornforth Thu 13-Oct-22 09:12:04

I’m currently being bombarded by videos of kids eating in various establishments (Brewers Fayre, something called Pho); at school; at home.
And the faux TV newsy MN ones.
It’s really peeing me off.
It’s not just the ads per se, it’s also the asinine content of them.

Esmay Thu 13-Oct-22 09:16:03

I'm getting endless pop ups since yesterday .

CassieJ Thu 13-Oct-22 09:35:11

Driving me mad too! It's bad enough when they are in the middle of the screen, but I am now getting them at the bottom right to. Click them off, but as soon as I click on another thread they reappear!!

Yammy Thu 13-Oct-22 09:41:46

What with all these adverts and the one from some Pilates class about "A pain in the BUM, I can't concentrate or even focus on what I am wanting to read or write, Or is it just little old me?blush

DanniRae Thu 13-Oct-22 10:04:55

Hate them. Please get rid of them!! angry

I'm getting suggested activities from IKEA for kids during lockdown - what are these adverts and videos?
Bargain basement adverts?
Was there a half price sale of videos at Blockbuster?

PLEASE DO SOMETHING GNHQ

Hello everyone

If you hover your mouse over the video in the thread, does a 'X' button appear? flowers

None of which rectifies the black screen appearing on my iPad.

What can be done to stop this?

LilyGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 13-Oct-22 10:29:04

Hi all

The adverts are a new format we are testing.

You can't click off the advert that appears in the thread, but you can close the one on the bottom right by clicking the X button.

We really appreciate all of your feedback on this and we are discussing it. flowers

Chestnut Thu 13-Oct-22 10:33:38

I can only suggest you Google cannot install Adblock and see what comes up which might help. I have a desktop computer with Google Chrome and have had no trouble installing it, and more importantly see no adverts at all!! So I cannot see any of the ghastly things being discussed. Keep trying, girls.

Mizuna Thu 13-Oct-22 10:34:57

Lily, you can't always close the video by clicking on the x - quite often it doesn't work. As I write this message the video is running because I can't close it and it's covering half of the box I'm writing in. I appreciate that you are a business and need revenue from advertising but these pop-ups are a a mistake, in my opinion. For what it's worth I had a marketing business before I retired and I certainly didn't aim to irritate my customers, as this is obviously doing.

FannyCornforth Thu 13-Oct-22 10:37:32

Hi*Lily*, personally, I don’t mind the ones in the middle.
I should imagine that this may also be the case for others, as they were never mentioned before the pesky ‘bottom’ ones arrived

Aveline Thu 13-Oct-22 11:21:05

Please GNHQ make these irritating intrusive adverts go away. Unless you're trying to get rid of Grans?

eazybee Thu 13-Oct-22 11:27:44

I DO mind the ones in the middle as they dominate the screen.
I am unable to remove them but I do not want them there in the first place. Read the feedback. I don't see what there is to discuss.

But LilyGransnet, they are old adverts and videos.

Boris Johnson is no longer Prime Minister
Rishi Sunak is no longer Chancellor
We are no longer in lockdown
Children are back at school.

MawtheMerrier Thu 13-Oct-22 13:54:09

Frankly Lilygransnet the site has shot itself in the foot.
If others like me feel it’s too much hassle to plough through videos which obscure what we want to read or post, membership will be plummeting.
As a good idea it ranks along with Truss’s and Kwazi’s mini budget - time for a U-turn.

lemsip Thu 13-Oct-22 13:56:47

seems to have gone from my laptop now thank goodness. they were an intrusion.

Millie22 Thu 13-Oct-22 14:01:06

Hello Lily gnhq

The new format with box ads is really irritating. I understand the need for advertising but please not like this.
