Am I too old to show my cleavage?

For years I have been hoping that I'd lose enough weight to wear my favourite dress. I bought it originally for my 70th birthday. Now past 80, I tried it on today and it fits perfectly. However, it does have rather a low neckline. Though I say it myself, I still have a good, unwrinkled cleavage, but at my age, will I look odd if I wear it? Or should I just put the dress on Ebay and buy one more befitting my age?

Sally12 thank you for the link. I thought OP was a bit anxious about showing her cleavage too but apparently not. Which is fine, but nice that you took the time to give some alternatives. Certainly helped me

Go for it!

Thank you. I certainly wasn’t being judgmental and definitely not intending to be rude - just trying to help smile

You’re way too old yes.
I feel too old & I’m only 58!

Callistemon Sun 15-Aug-21 20:02:27

I wish I could!

Harris27 Sun 15-Aug-21 20:05:17

Wear it enjoy!

Nannylovesshopping Sun 15-Aug-21 20:16:21

I’m 71 with a cracking good cleavage, I show it off as and when I feel like it! annodomini you go girl!!

rafichagran Sun 15-Aug-21 20:26:01

Hetty why should she cover up? Very judgemental. Why are women other womens worst critics. You wear it with pride Anno.

NotAGran55 Sun 15-Aug-21 20:28:42

We are never too old to do anything Anno ( unless it’s likely to be dangerous)
Flash ‘em with pride!

Well, if you are comfortable showing your cleavage, go for it. Personally, it wouldn't be for me - but that's got nothing to do with age, I have always hated showing my (very ample) cleavage, it's kept under wraps most of the time!

Shandy57 Sun 15-Aug-21 20:39:56

Just wear clothes that make you happy smile

nadateturbe Sun 15-Aug-21 20:52:56

I don't like showing cleavage. I don't think it looksc'nice'. That's my personal view.
If you like showing cleavage then your age or the condition of your cleavage is irrelevant. Why should it? Wear your dress. You love it!

Hetty58 Sun 15-Aug-21 20:54:22

rafichagran, I'm quite happy to be proved wrong - so do post your wonderful octogenarian cleavage photos folks!

Realistically, though, body dysmorphia can result in over (as well as under) confidence.

Wear it of course and be proud. I wish I still had a cleavage!

I was sat in a restaurant near you last night annodomini and I watched the yoof go by on their way to pubs and clubs. I saw that people today are wearing what they want to wear and what they feel good and comfortable in. The "Am I Too Fat/Thin/Old/To Wear This" rule book has been torn up! If you like it, feel comfortable in it, then wear it and rock it!

Oldbat1 Sun 15-Aug-21 21:52:44

If you want to wear your lovely dress then definitely do it. “Frankly dear I don’t give a dam” - not quite correct quote and I can’t remember which film star had the line. Personally I don’t like seeing cleavages at any age but we are all different.

kircubbin2000 Sun 15-Aug-21 21:59:24

Why would you want to show cleavage? Wear a vest or camisole and be decent.

welbeck Sun 15-Aug-21 22:00:19

nothing personal, obviously as i don't know you, but i don't like visible cleavage. on anyone, young or old.
but if it's a nice dress, could you get or fashion a kind of inset to cover that part, usually of a lighter colour.
or just wear some kind of covering underwear, bandeau style maybe.
do what you feel is right for you. age is irrelevant. enjoy your clothes.

Jaxjacky Sun 15-Aug-21 22:05:39

If I felt confident wearing a low neckline at whatever age I wouldn’t be asking anyone, I’d just do it.

welbeck Sun 15-Aug-21 22:11:59

what a fascinating article and useful site generally.
thank you Sally12.

i have some shirts that i liked but was resigned to ditching as they have become too tight, must have shrunk, in the midriff area.
a neighbour said they looked nice and suggested using them as 'jackets'. i had no idea what she meant. basically to wear a tee shirt or similar underneath and slip them on over, as if they had no buttons. simples.
i would never have thought of that. so glad of ideas.

BigBertha1 Sun 15-Aug-21 22:24:02

Wear it and enjoy. Think Joan Collins ..always fabulous.

Chewbacca Sun 15-Aug-21 22:37:38

Wear a vest or camisole and be decent.

Or take no chances and wear a liberty bodice! gringringrin

Atqui Sun 15-Aug-21 22:37:40

It’s all about how comfortable you feel showing cleavage. But if you aren’t , no need to ditch the dress just get a camisole
