I watched the first episode last night - oh dear was it juts me I thought it was dire. I suppose they all get life makeovers.

merlotgran Thu 04-Jan-18 09:05:44

Good old Kay Mellor never disappoints IMO. Her characters are a joy to watch. Just don't take them too seriously.

I loved it.

Teetime Thu 04-Jan-18 09:07:12

I couldn't possibly take these characters seriously!!

janeainsworth Thu 04-Jan-18 09:16:20

I only caught the last 20 minutes.
Totally distracted by Zoe Wanamaker trying to do a northern accent.

AyjayF Thu 04-Jan-18 09:45:05

I thought it was ok. Not gripping.
I agree that actors from the area or at least those who can master the right accents should be employed.
Why didn't the young woman notice the police device thingy (can't remember what you call it) on her lover's leg? No-one one is that distracted

Teetime Thu 04-Jan-18 09:58:24

Perhaps she didn't get down that far? smile

Christinefrance Thu 04-Jan-18 10:50:49

Teetime !blush
I enjoyed it but the northern accent was a bit off putting.
I like Kay Mellor's writing as well.

tanith Thu 04-Jan-18 11:02:08

I'll keep watching I liked it.

henetha Thu 04-Jan-18 11:12:13

I thought it was good, like all Kay Mellor's writing. I liked the characters .

jusnoneed Thu 04-Jan-18 12:58:59

I wasn't very impressed but will probably watch next week in the hope that this was just setting the story line and it will improve. They did all seem a bit daft though lol.

annodomini Thu 04-Jan-18 13:14:28

Missed it though I'd meant to watch it. Now I'm wondering if I should bother!

janeainsworth Thu 04-Jan-18 13:34:32

annoOne of the characters was anguished because her mum announced her intention to remarry in her 80s & she would lose her inheritance.
I wondered if the screenwriter had been looking for ideas on Gransnet grin

ginny Thu 04-Jan-18 13:38:46

I watched and will carry on. I think there were a few good story lines being set up.

BlueBelle Thu 04-Jan-18 13:49:03

I thought it was ok wasn’t fully riveted but I think it will get better( hopefully) I think the problem was it was half drama and half comedy and I felt lost it’s way a bit in trying to be both
I thought the office based friend was way over the top I didn’t noticed Zoe Wannamakers accent, I did spend ages trying to remember the 80 yr olds name (from butterflies) I still can’t remember and it’s annoying me yes I could look it up but that defeats my brain it ll come when I m not thinking about it
Certainly give it another go if only to find out what really happened to Dad

seacliff Thu 04-Jan-18 15:24:59

Wendy Craig? I didn't realise she was still with us!

Deedaa Thu 04-Jan-18 22:03:08

I had to watch because Louise the PA is being played by my friend's daughter. She's been in several west end musicals but this is her first TV role. Very exciting!

BlueBelle Thu 04-Jan-18 22:28:34

Which one is a Louise ?

grannyactivist Fri 05-Jan-18 01:00:04

I wanted to enjoy this, but I thought it was clichéd. I'll start to watch the next episode to see if it improves, but I'm not very hopeful.

WilmaKnickersfit Fri 05-Jan-18 01:28:57

Not sure if I will bother catching up with this now. I wasn't sure when I saw the trailer. It looked a bit trite to me.

Teetime Fri 05-Jan-18 09:19:35

Wendy Craig was Rea in Butterflies

Tegan2 Fri 05-Jan-18 12:01:30

I, too, thought Wendy Craig was no longer with us confused...

Deedaa Fri 05-Jan-18 21:57:34

BlueBelle Louise is the one who was trying to tell Miranda Richardson about the highlighter under her eyes.

BlueBelle Wed 17-Jan-18 21:43:13

What a dire drama this has turned into I really think the storyline is turning out to be cxxx and the acting is pretty awful anyone still watching ?

merlotgran Wed 17-Jan-18 22:04:13

I'm loving it. Pure nonsense but I don't care because anything with Miranda Richardson in it is worth watching.

seacliff Wed 17-Jan-18 22:25:45

I really enjoyed it tonight. It might be nonsense, but for me it's entertaining.

I also like the fact that the actresses are not all "glammed up", they look like real people, wrinkles and all.
