Did anyone else watch the program about our future King the other night. I found it very entertaining and loved his story about the butcher and the black pudding. I felt he came across as a very nice person who is kind and thoughtful and his wife and sons, clearly love him very much.

I think you’re forgetting the extended family Annie and strangely none of them work to keep themselves ( nor will they ever) why should they?

You surely don’t need me to tell you how flying round the world as often as they all do , driving or being driven in gas guzzling cars ( I know Charlie has just treat himself to, or been given cute little electric Jaguar to show willing ha ha ) running several large homes, Eating and drinking lavishly as they do and then spouting about saving the bloomin’ planet is hypocrisy at its worst!

If I won the lottery, which I won’t because I don’t play it, I would buy a car, buy my three grandchildren houses and buy a house for me to be free of council officials having the right to inspect my home, even my bedroom.

You wouldn’t Gilly?

Funding a President would not cost what maintaining the RF costs. They may well give money but its not their money. The system of having a Monarchy and all that it entails is just so wrong.. I don't know how anyone who has read history books can disagree.

Jalima1108 Tue 13-Nov-18 12:56:50

DH is a historian, I think he still thinks they are best value for money and avoids many elections which may not remain apolitical - and would cost more in the long term.

We have a benign monarchy now, unlike many of those over the centuries.

Sparklefizz Tue 13-Nov-18 13:06:45

I agree with Jalima's post above. They are the best value for money etc....

annep How many tourists would come to see a president and spend their money in the UK? People fly in from all over the globe for Royal events.

nigglynellie Tue 13-Nov-18 13:41:59

Tbh, for some people whatever Charles did wouldn't be good enough, so its not really worth discussing. I would certainly far in a way prefer a well meaning King as head of state than a power grabbing President. Yes you can exchange him/her every few years, but the inevitable like for like isn't attractive! ?

maryeliza54 Tue 13-Nov-18 13:56:51

Having a president ( like the Irish or the Germans) as a head of state is much much cheaper than the RF but much more importantly is a sign of a democratic grown up nation that goes to the ballot box rather than the vagina. However, sadly that will not come to pass. But I don’t see why we can’t hsve a much more Scandinavian type of RF.

maryeliza54 Tue 13-Nov-18 13:59:39

Why set up such a dichotomy niggly? Presidents come in all sorts of constitutional guises - or didn’t you realise that?

Sparklefizz Tue 13-Nov-18 14:15:12

maryeliza what do you mean "goes to the ballot box rather than the vagina" ? I don't get it.

nigglynellie Tue 13-Nov-18 14:15:27

You can keep them!!

nigglynellie Tue 13-Nov-18 14:21:56

I think it's a rather trying way of saying that someone is born to it as opposed to being voted for! confused

annep Tue 13-Nov-18 14:43:54

Sparklefizz the end doesn't justify the means. And the monarchy may well have changed but it doesn't change what they did in the past to acquire their wealth and power. I don't understand people treating one family as if they are the most important people in the land. Why are people blind to this. I will never understand.

annep Tue 13-Nov-18 14:44:48

and yes MaryEliza democratic!!

gillybob Tue 13-Nov-18 15:14:55

I do play the lottery Annie in the tiniest hope of improving mine and my families lives . I don’t need millions . Just enough for DH and I to get off this treadmill, pay my debts and to help my children out . The rf probably wouldn’t get out of bed for what I could live on comfortably for the rest of my life.

I don’t think these people are any better than anyone else in this country, just obscenely rich due to accident of birth. It puzzles me shy anyone would think otherwise .

Anyway off into the school yard now.

Anniebach Tue 13-Nov-18 15:46:11

I certaintly do not think they are better than anyone else, but I don’t think this of anyone. I do not think them more important than anyone else. They are human beings, born into a family of wealth with a job to do. But they are human beings with the same emotions as me , if cut they bleed. They are not responsible for the actions of their ancestors neither am I responsible for the actions of my ancestors.

I do think Charles has been subjected to humiliation and unfair criticism and is the victim of many lies,

If I had to choose out of the entire Windsor family who I have always respected it’s Katherine Kent who has retired from royal duties.

maryeliza54 Tue 13-Nov-18 15:51:56

What’s trying niggly with the truth - PC is where he is because of whose vagina he came out of - it’s as simple as that - or maybe you believe in the divine right of kings ?

Anniebach Tue 13-Nov-18 16:04:00

Perhaps he arrived by caesarean

maryeliza54 Tue 13-Nov-18 16:10:31

Nope

Anniebach Tue 13-Nov-18 16:25:41

Did queenie have an enema ?

nigglynellie Tue 13-Nov-18 16:41:09

Annie???, perhaps you could write and ask her!!!!!!?

annep Tue 13-Nov-18 16:41:29

Yes they bleed but for two of them at least help is at hand. Special treatment for more important people or what?!
I bet there's more too.
A Royal Navy doctor also accompanies the Queen on tours, carrying a bulky medical bag with a mobile defibrillator.

The Queen and the Prince of Wales also both have their own personal supply of blood in their convoy in countries where a reliable source is questionable.

Anniebach Tue 13-Nov-18 16:43:49

niggly ? x

nigglynellie Tue 13-Nov-18 16:44:18

I expect most of the heads of state in other countries do too! So what! Who cares!!!

Bridgeit Tue 13-Nov-18 16:45:22

Where would we stop,? They are part & parcel of our entire countries history, would communism suit the country better ? I don’t think so. Nothing is ever equal, who would you move onto next? Actors, stars, politicians, models , anyone who has inherited family wealth?

Anniebach Tue 13-Nov-18 16:48:06

I don’t care but gosh it bothers some ?. I am thankful they have their own medical team, if Charles had an accident when staying in his farmhouse in Wales, the Heath Hospital in Cardiff would be in a tizz
