It’s just started and I’m liking it straightaway! Stellar cast. Imelda Staunton (love her). Francesca Anuns.

The series follows three adult siblings – Helen, Jake and Natalie – whose lives are thrown into disarray when their recently widowed mum Vivien declares she’s fallen for a new man, retired GP Mark.

As Vivien nears her 70th birthday, her children grow suspicious when Mark begins to shift her priorities away from her family.

Gorgeous location see the photo!

Definitely Mark the retired medic. Packing pills in the suitcase for their trip to India. First wife took her own life but friend shouted out at the Coroner’s Court that she wasn’t depressed.

Open & shut case.

But there’s the party and denouement tomorrow night and what on earth is Mary stitching from remnants of Vivien’s clothes? She’s going to wear it to the party?

Plus, Vivien is having doubts.... ‘Mark - do you have a photograph of your daughter?’
?
Realising she’s losing the closeness with her adult children and having doubts about selling that lovely house....

I shall be so disappointed if it's Mark. Let's have a twist to the tale !
Think Mary is stitching a quilt made from pieces of the children's old clothing, don't think she is evil just lonely with a replacement family.

Callistemon Wed 26-Feb-20 22:21:11

I too think Mary is making a quilt from the children's old clothes.

I laughed when Mark was busy hammering a fence post to keep Mary out and she brightly said 'don't worry about me, I can go round the front way'
grin

Curlywhirly Wed 26-Feb-20 22:35:25

I still think Mark is one of the victims, rather than the villain; it's just too obvious to have him killing Vivien (which is what we would think as he seems to have killed his first wife). My money is on Mary being the villain.

Pittcity Wed 26-Feb-20 22:36:57

Storynanny the sacked woman was following the daughter on social media ( the daughter kept taking photos) and posted there. It's easy to find and stalk people online....

Callistemon Wed 26-Feb-20 22:39:10

Who hit whom at the end? At first it looked as if Jake was on the floor with a flash of the dark hair of the perpetrator.
Then the other way round
confused

tanith Wed 26-Feb-20 23:01:43

I was confused by the end too.

BlueBelle Wed 26-Feb-20 23:05:50

Me too didn’t quite get that, but I still think Dr Mark is a victim.....
oh er, Jake is a naughty boy

Curlywhirly Thu 27-Feb-20 06:56:11

I rewound the fight at the end - it was Mark punching Jake.

wallers5 Thu 27-Feb-20 07:11:26

Great fun & probably true of many siblings when faced with mothers new man. Lovely setting. Very watchable.

LullyDully Thu 27-Feb-20 08:19:53

None of them seem upset , distraught or worried at the Police Station. Surely Jake is a lot stronger than Mark, he looks it. Also, what a bunch of liars.

Just hope the ending is as twist.

Yehbutnobut Thu 27-Feb-20 08:21:28

Surely they could have got a more convincing beau than the one playing Mark. Whether he is a baddie or misunderstood he’s not much to look at and I squirm when he speaks. Yuk!

travelsafar Thu 27-Feb-20 08:38:27

I wonder if it will be Tony the lover of the dark haired sister. There are so many different things going on in this brilliant series it makes us all would be detectives. Cant wait for the reveal!!! smile

Sparklefizz Thu 27-Feb-20 08:54:32

What if Mark torched the red sports car to claim on the insurance because he couldn't afford it so that was a red herring?

Meanwhile what if all 3 adult children plotted together to get rid of Mark and maybe Mary helped them. Those 4 all have reason to get him out of the picture. We keep being shown that blood-stained rock so presumably somebody was hit with it, and I wonder if the Mum, having got some suspicions now, and in protecting her children dealt the final blow because he was hitting Jake, or hurting one of the girls.

Just a thought .....

Sparklefizz Thu 27-Feb-20 08:55:29

Mum is Vivien - sorry, forgot her name.

Eloethan Thu 27-Feb-20 09:42:15

The police officer interviewing each person keeps referring to the victim as "the patient" so I'm wondering if it is someone who isn't close to or known by the family - or at least the police are unaware that the person has a connection to the family. Could it be one of the peripheral characters - the unfaithful husband or his wife, the woman who Jake has the "arrangement" with, the woman who lost her job?

It seems pretty silly of them to tell such blatant lies during the interviews.

I do find it rather difficult to believe an attractive and intelligent woman would become so besotted with a rather unattractive and slightly creepy man. Still, I'm enjoying it.

merlotgran Thu 27-Feb-20 09:49:35

The 'cougar' lawyer woman seems almost too good to be true. I think she has some 'past' with Mark and is setting up Jake to get her revenge.

What's the point of the (non existent?) daughter?

Sparklefizz Thu 27-Feb-20 09:53:55

merlot What's the point of the (non existent?) daughter

Mark had already googled Gibralter, so he needed an excuse to get Vivien over to Spain where "non existent daughter" was supposedly living - then a short hop into Gib for a quickie marriage.

Callistemon Thu 27-Feb-20 09:55:35

Sparklefizz you could have it!
But there is one body and one person in hospital, injured.
We haven't seen the older sister being interviewed, have we?

LullyDully Thu 27-Feb-20 09:56:43

Yes, maybe they are all in on the plot, hence the blatant lies. Mary is definitely putting in her two pennies worth.

I must admit I am envious of FA being so fit at 73.( I can't get down and up off the ground like that anymore without someone or something hauling me up. )

Callistemon Thu 27-Feb-20 09:58:20

She is very fit, however, I was consoled by the fact that we don't see her running far even though we're supposed to assume she has probably run a mile or so.

I find it difficult to even walk on that shingle.

Calendargirl Thu 27-Feb-20 09:58:37

You don’t think ‘cougar’ woman is one of Mark’s dead wife’s friends? Out for justice for her? Or could be a sister or something?
How did Mark and Vivien meet?
How long had they been going out before she introduced them to her family?
Did she never enquire about what his first wife died of?

If I were to embark on a new relationship as I approached 70, I would want to know a heck of a lot of info about his previous life. Vivien comes across as quite gullible and a bit drippy.

Callistemon Thu 27-Feb-20 10:00:10

It's surprising what loneliness and 'love' of a manipulative man can do even for someone older.

merlotgran Thu 27-Feb-20 10:01:03

Thanks, Sparklefizz. That bit passed me by.

Callistemon. Her body double is probably 23. grin
