Not giving anything away if I say the main character gets amnesia after a car accident in the Australian outback. We don't know his name either.
Just wondered if anyone else thought his accent changes from Scottish to Northern Irish? Maybe just bad acting.

The Northern Ireland accent can sound slightly Scottish depending where you live in N.Ireland. I only have to travel about 14 miles from where I live and the accent changes a lot and does sound a little bit Scottish. Jamie Dornan looks like he did in The Fall, it was very dark, he was so evil in it compared to the clean cut Mr.Grey( well he wasn't that clean...) I was unsure if I would like The Tourist after the first episode, but now after the second one in it's getting interesting.

We started watching this last night, it reminds me of the end of the F**king world a bit - with the styling. I thought the cafe was amazing grin

I already hate the woman's fat fiance

Oh yes! The police woman's fiance is awful, his death of a thousand cuts of her self esteem "you used to be pretty and can be again" and his complete lack of support and understanding of her career ambitions. I sat watching it last night, egging her on to leave him.

On the subject of the main character's accent, I remember first seeing Sean Connery in one of the Bond films. I couldn't place his accent either...and I am Scottish.

my husband said he might be the new Bond? My husband seemed to know alot about him, said he was in 50 shades of grey. I hope he isn't hiding any secrets from me grin

Mr Dornan is Irish 100% accents alter wildly between each area as with English, so getting your 'ear in' can be confusing as accents wander from harsh Ulster to almost Scottish island lilt!

Santana Mon 03-Jan-22 12:13:54

Oh yes, the fiancé will have you ranting ladies, in 3rd episode I think.
Won't spoil it, but best stay away from delicate crockery. I'm still hoping the cowboy will get him.

The main actor is Irish and that's the only accent I've heard him deliver. There was a character in the first episode who had a Scottish accent and also one in the second as I noticed it was like the UK in the searing sun.

Kevin Maher has a column in The Times today discussing his accent!

inishowen Mon 03-Jan-22 12:22:42

Jamie Dornan is from Northern Ireland. His father was my gynacologist!

I gave in to temptation and binge watched this, really enjoyed it, there were some gory moments and you had to concentrate to keep up with the plot at times, well I did, especially in the last episode. I thought Jamie Dorman was really good, the girl who played the enthusiastic young Police Officer with the emotionally abusive control freak of a fiancé was great too. The guy playing Billy Nixon the big baddy in the cowboy hat has such a deep velvet voice, reminded me of Barry white.
You wouldn’t want to stop at the services round those parts though, that toilet!!

Susieq62 Mon 03-Jan-22 12:28:51

My brother Lives in Bunbury WA and I have visited regularly, until now of course. We did a 2000k road trip last time and the scenery on this programme is exactly as it is. The remote towns are like this as well so it was a good view from that perspective.
However, he did have an Irish accent which suggests he is not who he seems. I think the acting is dire but I shall watch it just to see what the story is about!

We watched the first episode but half-way through episode 2, we decided we had had enough of so many caricatures. Surely there must be someone who behaves normally? Disappointed as it seemed so intriguing at first, but I don't think we will watch again. We have travelled through Australia and can vouch for the veracity of the toilet!

I live about 2 miles from where Jamie grew up. It’s a Northern Ireland accent.

Nah, this is the Australian Outback, mate!

coastalgran Mon 03-Jan-22 15:28:32

I saw a trailer and it reminded me of his character in The Fall, so I am wondering if there are going to be similarities in this drama as well.

MayBee70 Mon 03-Jan-22 15:55:50

I’ve just finished episode 3 and am going to binge watch the rest. It’s a bit Coen brothers, isn’t it!

gillyknits Mon 03-Jan-22 16:09:20

Apparently it took hours to edit out all the flies!

Galaxy62 Mon 03-Jan-22 16:14:32

Great first two episodes, he is actually Irish it’s the bloke from 50 shades, when we travelled round Australia in a motorhome there were a lot of little towns like this very Wild West looking, hope it keeps up the suspense.

dogsmother Mon 03-Jan-22 16:46:44

SachaMac….couldn’t resist, and binge watched too!
Loved Jamie Dornan, unmistakable accent if you know it. No spoilers from me x

pamdixon Mon 03-Jan-22 17:31:13

Ashamed to say binged watch all the episodes y'day with my husband! Was quite gripped by it all! Will say no more, but I did recognise the Irish accent straight off....................!! Enjoy the rest everyone. Would be interested to know what other people thought of the penultimate episode though!!

Grandma2213 Mon 03-Jan-22 18:24:57

Allsorts Mon 03-Jan-22 19:33:14

Too dark for me.

granfromafar Mon 03-Jan-22 19:57:50

Another binge-watcher here. Just finished and it was 4 hours well spent. Thought Danielle MacDonald was brilliant in the role of Helen Chambers and there were some good comedy moments in amongst the violence and bad language.
