Time for the next thread.

Might not even have been a midwife these days. Whoever it was should have gone to find a senior to confirm what had been found

Calendargirl Tue 11-Nov-25 17:26:38

Fed up with yet another baby story.

Crossstitchfan Tue 11-Nov-25 23:02:07

Doodledog - you asked why I still watch Corrie when I moan about it so much. Well, I watch it mainly for the following reasons -
1) I have watched it since the very start in 1960, so loyalty is one reason
2) I do genuinely like the programme which is why I get so annoyed when it goes pear shaped.
3) I keep hoping it will one day revert to being the Corrie it used to be.
4) I like quite a few of the actors.
5) I watch tv as an escape, not to be educated. I have documentaries I watch for that.

I can see why you asked the question though! I did go on a bit!

Maggiemaybe Tue 11-Nov-25 23:29:10

I think that applies to a lot of us, Crossstitchfan. We live in hope.

Onwards and upwards. smile

Crossstitchfan Wed 12-Nov-25 00:23:16

Indeed!

Doodledog Wed 12-Nov-25 00:47:15

Thanks for humouring me grin

I know what you mean in a way. I’ve watched since the 80s, and stick with it even when it’s annoying. There’s usually at least one good story going on though. Or there was until they stopped the all-cast episodes. I think it went downhill then, and hope the recent episodes are a sign that the policy has finally been changed.

I agree, no way should Shona have been told there was a problem. If nobody senior could be found, she should have been sent home, and somebody should have called her to ask her to return fairly soon to discuss the results.

Bukkie Wed 12-Nov-25 21:01:02

I know they were trying to show both Shona and David's thoughts and feelings tonight but the episode gave me a headache.

Primrose53 Wed 12-Nov-25 21:03:18

What a bizarre episode tonight! David and Shona speaking their thoughts, Mrs Doyle Singing “Sweet Caroline”. I think the producers have been on the waccy baccy.

Aveline Wed 12-Nov-25 21:14:18

Good episode. Lot of variety. It was an interesting way of showing David and Shona's different perspectives.

harrigran Wed 12-Nov-25 21:27:53

What utter rubbish that episode was. All of the acting was OTT.

BlueBelle Wed 12-Nov-25 21:33:49

I m the opposite I thought tonight’s was rather well done and I thought both Shona and David acted well
At the moment I can’t stand the bar scenes they are just too OTT

Sarnia

Unless things have changed since I retired from a Maternity unit, there is no way last night's scan scene would happen.
Should a midwife spot something concerning they would go and find a more senior midwife or obstetrician to confirm or discount anything untoward on the scan. Last night's stab at 'reality' has a midwife telling Shona and David she has seen a mass on the baby. It would never have happened like that a few years ago and I sincerely hope it doesn't happen like that now.

I am a retired nurse who was a qualified midwifeSarnia as well.
I feel the same as you.No way would this news be left to a midwife to tell expectant parents.
Three of my family members had serious problems with the baby on early scans. They were done by midwife/sonagraphers.
They were all told there was a need to them to return for more detailed scans but no exact reason given except the picture was ''blurry''.Fortunatly in two of the cases nothing abnormal was found on the second scan, but the third one it was discovered that the baby had died.
Who on earth is the soaps medical advisor if they have one

Aveline Thu 13-Nov-25 06:24:11

All the sonographer said was that there was a mass on the baby's neck and that they'd be seeing a specialist for fuller info. I was surprised at how brief that interview was. No explanation for alternative types of mass. Oh well. It's not a documentary.

Doodledog Thu 13-Nov-25 09:25:12

Yes, why didn't they ask how the 'mass' might affect the baby? Or what it was likely to be? I wouldn't have just sat there after news like that without asking questions, and I can't imagine the consultant sending them away to consider termination without knowing the extent of the problem for the baby or the risks to Shona of the operation.

Charleygirl5 Thu 13-Nov-25 09:33:21

Definitely not well researched.

Cabowich Thu 13-Nov-25 10:07:02

I thought last night's episode showing Shona's and David's inner thoughts was such a good change from the recent drivel. Oh, the miscommunication between couples! And then them both coming out on opposite sides of the pole after the 'diagnosis'. What will happen, I wonder?

Mrs Doyle's yodelling was the only cringey part. Even DH said he thought they must have got different writers in for last night's episode and he doesn't usually notice things like that.

Calendargirl Thu 13-Nov-25 11:23:27

I can’t see the Rovers making any money.

Were these cocktails a free sample?

I don’t know about Maggie (aka Mrs Doyle on GN).

I find myself looking at her mouth every time she speaks, it looks like she’s grinning all the time, but thinking back, that’s how she looked on Father Ted, so it must be her expression.

They seem a strange family, no hint yet on how long Eva and her chap, can’t remember his name, have been an item.

She seems to be very fond of his boys, and they do of her. Just MIL not so keen.

Doodledog Thu 13-Nov-25 11:32:04

As some of you know, I am a fan of highbrow TV wink and consequently saw Big Brother, where Sweet Caroline featured too, and by a strange coincidence it was part of the routine at my exercise class yesterday afternoon. After hearing it three times in one day I was beginning to think that it must be a Neil Diamond anniversary or something.

Kate1949 Thu 13-Nov-25 12:47:40

I'm not sure why, but it irrirates me that Maggie has a Southern Irish accent and her son has a Northern Irish accent. Of course it's perfectly possible so I don't know why I'm irritated. Old age maybe.

honeyrose Thu 13-Nov-25 14:28:28

I thought last night’s episode was very peculiar - with David & Shona’s innermost thoughts spoken out loud. First from Shona and then from David’s prospective. Double whammy! I thought I had some additional help applied to the programme - a bit like it may be for the visually impaired (although I know that that is a vital help and I’m all for it, if it’s needed). Don’t like Maggie at all - bossy so and so. I keep expecting her to cower down with a teapot and say “more tea, Father” as she did in Father Ted. She played quite a subservient character in Father Ted.

vegansrock Thu 13-Nov-25 14:34:46

The pub wont make any money as there are usually more staff than customers.

Well, none of the Platts had the same accent. Audrey, Gail, David, Sarah and Nick all have different ones, and the numerous little ones are different again, on the rare occasions they get to say anything. Everyone is vaguely NW, but all very different.

Kate1949 Thu 13-Nov-25 17:27:02

I know. I'm being totally illogical.

Doodledog Thu 13-Nov-25 17:35:26

No you're not - it doesn't make sense that the Platt children, all brought up in the same house by the same mother, who has lived in Weatherfield all her life would have different accents. It's only in Soapland that that would happen grin
