Looks like we are in lockdown. Thoughts?

growstuff Mon 23-Mar-20 22:05:13

The army is also being brought in to deliver food parcels to the 1.5 million most vulnerable.

If it's one walk a day so be it.I will just be grateful for some fresh air and a chance to take our dogs out.I'm sticking to the instructions to the letter. The more people who do the sooner we get out of this lockdown. If Boris had done this sooner - and in a way I wish he had -there would have been an outcry but the scenes of the last weekend have proved no other measures will do.Now let's hope collectively the country pulls together as one.

merlotgran Mon 23-Mar-20 22:30:59

Try not to be scared, gilly. There might be a lot of army activity around you but it will be for the good.

Can you contact your phone provider and explain the situation? I would imagine there will be a lot of people anxious about paying their bills.

All these measures are in our best interest. It might be hard and scary to adjust but stay in touch with your nearest and dearest via the internet or phone and or course there is always good old Gransnet.

We will get through this. smile

If easily offended - look away now

Luckygirl Mon 23-Mar-20 22:39:04

just one walk a day seems rather punitive - a bit punitive! What planet are you on? Do you not understand the seriousness of the situation. I am surprised that walks are being allowed at all in urban areas. Sigh.

Luckygirl Mon 23-Mar-20 22:42:38

gilly - these are not normal times - I am sure that many utility providers will have to allow a bit of leeway over bills. Please do not worry - just let them know the situation. I am sorry you are feeling so stressed.

Lizbethann55 Mon 23-Mar-20 22:57:05

An idiot on a neighbourhood Facebook page has said. And I quote "I won't be staying in. I couldn't give a flying f**k what the police say". And he's a middle aged man!!! I despair!!!

morethan2 Mon 23-Mar-20 22:58:39

Serious question if a dog can be taken for a walk can a child be taken for a walk when following all the rules?

Hetty58 Mon 23-Mar-20 23:03:24

Of course, morethan, a child needs exercise just like a dog. Family walks are allowed.

Chestnut Mon 23-Mar-20 23:04:57

It does seem to be a rather lax type of lockdown. We can go out for walks! In Europe they can only go out to get food and medicine. Many people will go out more than once and simply ignore the rules as much as possible. They don't want the Police to get too heavy handed so they will just ask people nicely to go home. Well good luck with that.

Hetty58 Mon 23-Mar-20 23:05:11

gillybob, could you use Skype online to stay in touch with your daughter? It's easy to set up and use - and it's free!

Nandalot Mon 23-Mar-20 23:06:26

People from the same household are allow to go out for their walk together, Morethan.

Lizbethann55 Mon 23-Mar-20 23:08:07

The idiots wife has given him a right rollocking and so he has backtracked!?

morethan2 Mon 23-Mar-20 23:23:35

Arhh thanks Nandalot

morethan2 Mon 23-Mar-20 23:24:57

And Hetty

BlueSky Mon 23-Mar-20 23:41:04

In Italy at first they were allowed to go for walks/jogging till they abused it, same with walking the dog, after that stricter laws. Let's hope it won't happen here.

Hetty58 Mon 23-Mar-20 23:47:02

BlueSky, I really hope so. My dog will drive me bonkers if she doesn't get a walk!

Callistemon Mon 23-Mar-20 23:47:36

gillybob the Army is to be mobilised to deliver all the essential equipment needed by the NHS; there are good supplies but the problem has been delivering them to where they are needed.

If they can clear the streets of yobs like those mentioned above all well and good too. They may be needed to keep order.

BlueSky Mon 23-Mar-20 23:50:55

Hetty58 I would go bonkers without a daily walk! That's what I would miss most if banned, I would have to walk up and down the garden or round and round grin

Callistemon Mon 23-Mar-20 23:51:41

EllenV I'm disgusted

I think if people had heeded government advice instead of treating the weekend like a Bank Holiday Jamboree then things would not have escalated so fast and the peak would have happened as predicted, flattened out.

It's the stupidity of many of the public which has disgusted me.

Callistemon Mon 23-Mar-20 23:52:24

Sorry, that was meant to be I'm disgusted - in fact copying your post

Hopefully if people see others flouting the new instructions they will video them and report them to the police. The police can fine people who won’t cooperate. I wouldn’t hesitate to report someone who disregards the safety of us all.

maddyone Tue 24-Mar-20 00:24:44

Personally I think it’s not come a moment too soon. In actual fact I think it’s not tough enough.

pensionpat Tue 24-Mar-20 00:25:07

We have army camped nearby our small town. I was wondering how the lockdown would be enforced. We have no police based in our town. I reckon the army will use drones. Film them. Identify them. Fine the buggers.

Sparklefizz Tue 24-Mar-20 00:58:02

I have been tossing and turning trying to get to sleep, and feel so relieved to come on here and find I'm not alone. I've been in tears and also very angry at the idiots who have exacerbated a dreadful situation. What is wrong with them?? I'm ashamed of their behaviour.

I'm grateful that we have, at last, got lockdown and I hope the first few who flout the new rules will be severely punished to make an example of them.

I am juggling 9 different illnesses including ME/CFS, asthma, celiac and other diseases and my AC are key workers and I'm worried about them .... plus I have an adult GD in lockdown in the Middle East where she's a teacher who I'm worried to bits about. I can't settle to anything, but hey! Tomorrow's another day. sunshine Where's Vera Lynn when you need her?

A friend has just posted on her FB page:

Our parents and grandparents had to fight in wars.
YOU are just being asked to sit on the sofa and wash your hands.
