On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

However the 2 Gransnetters who have stayed the course are Fourormore and Shirleyw who have helped to keep me on the straight and narrow, most of the time ?, and kept up our spirits. Plus a few others who make an occasional entrance and departure and that is fine too - All Welcome.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.
Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.
Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my mantra. I am sure both Four and Shirley will tell you their strategies.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

So Onward and Downward ? in 2020 and beyond folks. Come and join us.

Had a lucky escape today. Had a fall but luckily not broken anything. Badly bruised my left arm and leg which happens to be my bad side. Wind blew me and my stick at the same time and I ended up on the floor. 2 workmen picked me up and took me to the bungalow they were working on. My daughter came and took me home and checked me over. It's been my greatest fear since losing all the weight I would fall and break something. I was lucky this time. My children have both torn a strip off me lesson learnt no going out in the wind.

Yennifer Tue 11-Feb-20 17:26:13

Oh Whiff, glad you are home safely x

Yennifer Wed 12-Feb-20 09:13:48

I'm a pound up this week, was expecting it!

Starting weight 10.8
Current weight 10.3
Goal weight 9.7

Making better choices after Indian food tomorrow lol x

Thank you for your welcomes, respect to those of you who have a blip and are soon back on it!
First couple of days feels like a novelty, no problems, but today, am cooking at my daughters house for five of us, all foodies, shall apply NanKates much smaller portions theory, haven’t told them I’m cutting down, they will probably ask me if I’m ill?

NanKate Wed 12-Feb-20 15:52:49

I meant to say Nanny I water down all my drinks and now prefer them that way. 7Up no cal lemonade with half water is refreshing. I also mix water with white wine, you could do this surreptitiously. I Always eat the pud but in a small portion and savour the taste and never have seconds. After a few weeks this method of eating seems normal.

Nannylovesshopping Wed 12-Feb-20 16:29:08

Gulp☹️NanKate water down the booze, I need to lie down!
Hmm..... forgot to post earlier I love a large gin, and have been known to knock back the red wine, oh dear am realising I am a hopeless case, at the moment that is. Have bought low cal tonic water today, that’s a first for me, but water down the red, a step too far at the moment. I have one redeeming quality, never ever crave a pudding, make them for others but sweet stuff just doesn’t do it for me.
I snack in the evenings, especially in the winter, so last night the spaniel is looking enquiringly at me when the cheese and biscuits, fave snack, didn’t appear, realised I shall be doing the dog a favour too, it’s been a very long week so far?

Having a bad food wise. I know I will get back to it tomorrow. I'm sore after my fall the pain is no more than the pain is usually. It's my cold that's making me feel so rough. I go years between them and they always knock me about. Sorry just having a woo is me day. I know there are people worse off than me and am being wicked having a moan. Time to give myself a talking to.

NanKate Wed 12-Feb-20 19:38:44

Nanny I’m sorry if you have come over all unnecessary at my suggestion ?. I never water down red wine.

Sorry you are feeling poorly whiff. ?

Losing weight is difficult, harder at sometimes than others, but it is mega to put on clothes and feel they are loose.

Onward and downward ?

Hello everyone and congratulations and commiserations where due. No noticeable change for me - well 2 oz down. Food intake has been sensible, but activity has been well down. Stormy weather, snow and wind, has kept me indoors. Trouble is, I love being at home and am never bored, so I must make the effort. It is just too easy to stay in my shell.

Dec46 Thu 13-Feb-20 13:59:58

Definitely agree linda650,I've had cough virus and been so pleased to be confined to my home for nearly 4 weeks, need sunshine to motivate me to get moving again.

I've been thinking that if all cafes/restaurants copied Wetherspoons and listed calorie counts for all dishes they would probably sell less but be a real help to those of us watching our weight. If I eat in Wetherspoons I never order a pudding as I'm always horrified by how high in calories something like chocolate fudge cake is. I also go for smaller appetite meals for the same reason and do find that they are as much as I need to eat.

NfkDumpling Sat 15-Feb-20 16:45:30

Well, I’m not loosing. But I’m not gaining either, and I have been very inactive lately as DH hasn’t been well since we got back from holiday and I have eaten out a couple of times which is fatal. Even if I’m really careful, it seems that restaurants and buffets contain more calories than home cooked food! Next week....!

Shirleyw Sun 16-Feb-20 06:27:10

I've been very lax these past couple of weeks and it shows.....up 4lbs.....no excuses....?

NanKate Sun 16-Feb-20 06:41:48

We’ve all been there Shirley so commiserations. I over did the food at Valentine’s and am still drinking the Prosecco, so I think this coming week will be a new start for quite a few of us.

Onwards and downwards girls.

Whiff Sun 16-Feb-20 08:17:56

Shirleyw it's a new week. We have all had bad weeks food for wise. If dieting was easy no one would ever be over weight. My weight has stayed the same again. Not really surprised as since my fall and cold this week I have slowed right down . Really must get back to daily exercising. Not going out until Friday and only then because I have a hospital appointment. Hope you are all coping with this storm.

Yennifer Sun 16-Feb-20 14:35:26

I have always been a terrible emotional eater, that's why fasting is good for me as it gives me clear instructions on when I can eat. This week was very emotional and in my eating hours I just didn't stop! So easy to have bad days but good ones come again x

Beechnut Mon 17-Feb-20 06:49:48

I’ve a loss of 1 1/2 lbs at this mornings weigh in. I’m pleased with that. It sets my big hope of going down into the lower stone category next week......determined Beechnut ? Good luck with your weighing this week everyone.

Whiff Mon 17-Feb-20 07:19:40

Beechnut well done. I'll pinch a bit of your determination as my weight has stayed the same for 6 weeks and need it to start moving again. Have a good week everyone.

Beechnut Mon 17-Feb-20 07:36:56

??Whiff

Nannylovesshopping Mon 17-Feb-20 09:56:24

Yay!! Lost a pound, was hoping for more as it’s my first week of not stuffing my face, but it’s a loss?

MiniMoon Mon 17-Feb-20 10:26:48

I haven't been so rigorous with myself this week and was expecting to have gained weight. It was a nice surprise when I got on the scales, to see that I haven't.
No loss, no gain.
I'll do better this week for sure.

Shirleyw Mon 17-Feb-20 19:19:53

Thanks girls.....the head definately rules

How are you whiff?
Well done nankate

Soon be spring

Yennifer Mon 17-Feb-20 19:21:17

Oh I can't wait for spring and cardigan weather, makes everything look better x

TrendyNannie6 Mon 17-Feb-20 19:25:41

You have done tremendously well whiff love to hear stories like this, well done you

Whiff Tue 18-Feb-20 06:37:31

Thank you Trendynannie6. Shirleyw I'm a lot better thank you. My bruises are all a fetching yellow and my cold is on its way out. My daughter gave me some Arnicare arnica cream for my bruises . Much to my amazement it helped. Yellowing quicker than usual. Took all the soreness from them. Still house bound until Friday when I have an echo on my heart. Winds and heavy rain here. Have to laugh though . If I was still 19st + the wind wouldn't have knocked me over. swings and roundabouts.

Hope you all have a good day.

Beechnut Tue 18-Feb-20 06:55:51

Spring...I’m with you there Shirley and Yennifer. Can’t wait to get my socks and shoes off and put my sandals on.
