On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

However the 2 Gransnetters who have stayed the course are Fourormore and Shirleyw who have helped to keep me on the straight and narrow, most of the time ?, and kept up our spirits. Plus a few others who make an occasional entrance and departure and that is fine too - All Welcome.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.
Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.
Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my mantra. I am sure both Four and Shirley will tell you their strategies.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

So Onward and Downward ? in 2020 and beyond folks. Come and join us.

I don't have any scales in my home so don't get weighed
I know by how my clothes fit whether I need to cut back and drop a few pounds

Annapops Sat 04-Jan-20 23:21:14

Fitbit is going to be alongside me. Time to become as active as can be . First 5k run in less than 33 mins yesterday. We will get there everyone.nx

Yennifer Sat 04-Jan-20 23:25:11

I put 4 on over Christmas and 6 in the months before, 2 down and 8 to go. I do intermittent fasting for the most part as it also helps my fibromyalgia x

Whiff Sun 05-Jan-20 07:58:25

Fourormore I still see a fat woman when I look in the mirror. I know I'm not. My eyes see what I look like but my head still sees the woman I was. Does that make sense? When I go clothes shopping I atomically go for the bigger sizes. My daughter and daughter in law usually grab the right one for me. The other week I picked up extra large tights my daughter said really mom. You are a medium. And went to change them luckily we were still in the shop.
Does this happened to anyone else?

Sit fit group tomorrow. Have to tell the instructor about my heart failure because of her insurance. Decades of being so fat hasn't helped me any. Wish my nephew would take note he is 27st. But as we all know we have to want to lose weight for ourselves or it doesn't work.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Hi fellow strugglers - as expected the scales were not friendly this morning but as we had been 'using up' the Christmas Cake (which I adore hmm) clotted cream (which I adore hmm) a few chocolates (which I adore hmm) biscuits (which I adore hmm)and sweeties (which to be honest I could manage without but I also can't stand waste hmm) I honestly cannot say I'm surprised!
Excuses over - that fat woman is definitely still there and the scales show a gain of 1.6lb.
Are you dodging the issue Whiff - it's Sunday??? We never need to state our actual weight just the sad bits (gains) or successes (losses!) or we can avoid the subject haha grin
Good luck for tomorrow Beechnut and any other Monday losers!
Get well soon NanKate - we need our leader and inspiration! Getting pleurisy is a drastic way of losing weight so I'm sure we all send our good wishes - please get well soon! flowers flowers flowers

NanKate Sun 05-Jan-20 12:05:40

Thanks for you kind words Four. Painkillers working a treat just look and feel like a worn out dishcloth. ?. I’m sure you and Shirley can run the club very efficiently.

grannymy Sun 05-Jan-20 12:12:47

I fancy the NHS plan. I also plan to get back swimming. I have a treadmill in the spare bedroom and it lies redundant. I am hoping to use it most days. I have been stuck in a rut for a while now and it's getting me down.

Whiff Sun 05-Jan-20 12:25:06

Should have said lost 1.25lb. As I think I have said I am happy if I stay the same or lose quarter of a pound. The days of beating myself up over my weight are over. We must all be kinder to ourselves. Took me decades to realise that. We live and luckily can still learn.

Annapops Sun 05-Jan-20 12:35:42

Put on 2lbs over Christmas which is not too bad. Lost 3/4 Ib this week. Fitbit is providing some encouragement to move more and I will attempt another 5k run today. I will be so pleased once all the cheese, crackers and biscuits have been eaten though. GC were a great help in that direction yesterday. Tomorrow's little visitors might just finish them all off and temptation should be removed.

Dec46 Sun 05-Jan-20 13:04:01

Please may I join you? In the past I've been a member of WW, Rosemary Conley and Slimming World. First 2 worked whilst I was a member but I actually put on weight with Slimming World!
I lost 6lbs in month before Christmas by thinking about what I need to eat to be healthy and cutting out cakes ,chocolate ,biscuits and junk food.I have been an emotional eater but know comfort doesn't come from overeating so going back to basics is the way for me.Did indulge over Christmas but have put remaining Christmas Cake out for the birds to enjoy yesterday.
I've been weighing myself weekly on Tuesday mornings.

fourormore Sun 05-Jan-20 21:33:10

Welcome Dec46 - you are on the Tuesday list grin
Comfort eating is my downfall too but you're right, it isn't the answer!
As far as I am aware tomorrow (Monday) is only Beechnut's weigh-in day so we all send her great good luck vibes, and any others clocking in tomorrow!
Advance good luck vibes to you and any other Tuesday 'weighers'!!!
Go for it comrades - NanKate may be poorly but I bet she has her eye on us haha! grin

Yennifer Sun 05-Jan-20 21:39:32

Do I need to join somehow? Weigh in Wednesday. Starting weight 10 stone 8 last Wednesday

WOODMOUSE49 Sun 05-Jan-20 22:02:08

Looking at the comments - do we have a day when to give our progress?

I'd not been brave enough to stand on the scales yet since saying I'd like to join in.

Monday has to be the day to find out my starting point. ?

CocoPops Mon 06-Jan-20 01:15:50

Oh dear! I weighed in at the swimming pool today. I want to lose 10lbs. Now to do some menu planning.....

Beechnut Mon 06-Jan-20 07:05:11

My first write down weigh of the new year shows a gain of 4lbs over the Christmas period. That is not bad for me I’m pleased to say, so here we go........

tanith Mon 06-Jan-20 07:26:10

Ok this morning I’m 10st 12lbs I would like to be 10st, I was over 12st 18mths ago and did lose 2 but it’s creeping up so here goes ?

NanKate Mon 06-Jan-20 10:35:23

? Haha.

fourormore Mon 06-Jan-20 12:39:19

Wow isn't the uptake brilliant - so many new names getting involved!
Just to reassure everyone (Yennifer asked) there is nothing to 'officially' join.
NanKate formed a little support group some time ago - numbers came and went and we ended 2019 with just the three of us 'regulars' and some others just popping in. We have no rules and regulations - we never criticise - we just encourage - there's no right or wrong way of doing things.
It doesn't matter how each one of us works - some like to state their actual weight - I'm fine with that - others just prefer to say they've lost/gained 'x' amount.
We are not out to name and shame - we're simply out to encourage each other - congratulate successes and commiserate and encourage when things don't go well.
Sadly I am 13 and a half stone - terrible! Down to comfort eating in the past.
Like so many people I tried all sorts, but got nowhere, getting to a point of obsession, so had to take time out.
When NanKate started the original thread I found it a great encouragement because we can LAUGH when things are not going well. I am not overweight, just very undertall - I should be about 19'6" grin
We don't take life too seriously but we all want to lose weight so we share our ups and downs.
There is no need for a 'set' weigh-day but if it would help I will make a note of what day of the week each of you weigh and make sure you get a good luck message!!!
Now that we all know what day it is after the festivities we will soon get back on the wagon.
Good luck everyone and flowers for our poorly sick leader!

lindadoughty650 Mon 06-Jan-20 13:15:17

Hello everyone, I would like to join in with you. Whilst I will tell you, hand on heart, that I eat meals cooked from scratch with fresh ingredients - that I walk a lot - that it is a mystery why I am 2 stones overweight. All true - BUT - what about those days when I cannot be bothered and just eat whatever is there, sandwiches, fruit, cheese and because it is in bits I end up eating a lot more than a proper meal would be. I need to have a proper routine first and foremost, and then tackle the content of meals to get nearer to where I would like to be. I entertain every Thursday evening, so would like a weigh-in day of Thursday, before the event.

Shirleyw Mon 06-Jan-20 13:42:35

Just walked the dog....I had a sweet crave earlier and know we have orange cream choc biscuits left in the house....I was soooo tempted but thought no, will give the dog an extra walk...so i did and i had 2 rich tea lights with my cup of tea when i got back...crave has gone......slim husband expected to eat them LOL....

fourormore Mon 06-Jan-20 17:08:15

Welcome Lindadoughty650 - your story is familiar to us all so I'm sure you will benefit from the support you will get from us all!
I will put you on the Thursday list - I weigh on Sunday mornings for the same reason - Sunday is my SINday so weigh before the event! We then have the rest of the week to behave!!! grin
NanKate is getting a bit better but has agreed that I can help her out with the 'weigh-days encouragement messages' so I will look again at the list and make sure we are all encouraged!
If you haven't already done so, please read through my post of 1239 on Mon 6th Jan as it explains how laid back we are! We all do it our way and encourage each other through the good and the not so good times!
Feel free to post any ideas that you have too as we are all open to new ideas!

fourormore Mon 06-Jan-20 19:32:22

Have I got this correct fellow strugglers?
Please remember you don't have to report in each week - only if you want to!
This is a support thread not a boot camp!
Weighing in on Mondays = Beechnut, Cocopops and Woodmouse49.
Weighing in on Tuesdays = Dec46
Weighing in on Wednesdays = Supergirlsnan, Tanith and Yennifer
Weighing in on Thursdays = NanKate and Lindadoughty
Weighing in on Fridays = no one as yet
Weighing in on Saturdays = Shirleyw
Weighing in on Sundays = Fourormore and Whiff
Some of these days are guessses (what I think you have said in your posts?) so please put me right if I've messed up grin
Let me know also if you have a weigh-in day not mentioned and I'll put you on the list!
Good luck vibes for tomorrow Dec46 flowersflowersflowers We are all rooting for you!
No miracles expected this week as we're post festivities but good luck everyone!

NfkDumpling Mon 06-Jan-20 21:26:16

Hi. I’m one of the hangers-on who fell by the wayside early. I went animal fat free and started taking plant sterols in order to get my cholesterol down and lost half a stone. Maintained this loss throughout the summer with no problem - but then, around October it started to go back on quite quickly. No change in diet, no change in excercise. It just happened. Back to nearly 13 stone.

And then we had the family for Christmas. And there were left overs. Still got half a Christmas cake sitting there which is taking all my will-power. Please tell me it’ll taste horrible!

I weigh myself every morning and take a mean average as my weight fluctuates by up to three pounds for no discernable reason.

fourormore Mon 06-Jan-20 22:13:06

Hi Nfk - welcome back!
You sound really fed up so our first aim is to help you feel part of our support group and for you to realise we are ALL struggling!
I wish I could tell you the Christmas cake tastes horrible but we all know the truth don't we! That was my downfall last week blush
Do you have an elderly neighbour or someone would could use up the cake for you? We had mince pies left but we managed to offload them - removing the temptation!

Having 'been there' it is sometimes better to delay the start of the battle until you are ready? I planned 'Operation Weight Loss' to start on 1st January and honestly I meant it! However the dreaded Christmas cake was looking at me along with other naughties and I knew I wouldn't be able to resist or would be as miserable as sin!
The Christmas cake eventually went (partly to my hips of course!) along with the real naughties and as I have Sundays as my Sinday I was able to have some of the other bits and pieces on Sunday and not feel guilty. I weighed myself Sunday morning, not to record a result but to make it my starting line.
If you decide on a weekly weigh-day, weigh in the morning and then, whatever the result, treat yourself a little on that day ONLY. Knowing you have a treat day to look forward to helps you to discipline yourself over the other six days.
Don't be hard on yourself, keep on this thread and if you want to record a weekly loss or gain please do so, as none of us will judge - we're all in the same boat!
Hang on in there and you will know when the time is right. We are all here for each other and that includes YOU! flowersflowersflowers

WOODMOUSE49 Mon 06-Jan-20 22:52:52

First weigh in. I'm glad I have a set day fourormore

Same weight. Not enough walking the dog in this horrible weather again. BUT I have cut back on the biscuits. No more than one a day for past 4 days.

Got my Hairy Dieters' Books out tonight and have a shopping list tomorrow. Love their recipes but mustn't have a big portion !
