£10,000 - 12,000 Where would you go

Since we retired and not including "big health scare" years, DH and I have taken it in turns to choose a "Big Trip". We've been to some fabulous places inc Hawaii, Thailand, Canada, South Africa and the Cape Cod area of America. Next year is my choice and with the mortgage coming to an end, we have a budget of up to £12,000. Day to day eating and drinking would be paid separately. A lovely dilemma but I have been through brochures until my head spins and I end up considering pottering around France. Not a bad idea. I'm not asking anyone to choose for me but would love to hear from Gransnetters where you would like to go. hmm

It would be Australia/New Zealand for me. Have a wonderful time wherever you choose.

An escorted tour of India would be up there for me.

Wildlife safari in Botswana

Antarctica

The Brando resort on Tetiaroa Island in the South Pacific, but, factoring in flights, I don’t think that 12,000 would get me very far! So New Zealand with some awesome fly fishing included, please!

New Orleans, Nashville and a visit to Graceland. If there was a bit of money left, I would go to Venice. I have been four or five times but, despite the crowds and the prices, I think it is magical.

Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom in Cambodia. Then on to New Zealand, perhaps to take in a visit to my cousin and his wife who live on the South Island.

South Africa for me.

A longer trip to NZ to see our son and family - 2 weeks is just not long enough. Nice dilemma to have - enjoy whatever you decide on.

Australia and New Zealand for me .with Singapore on a stopover one way and Hong Kong the other.
(Is that actually workable?)
I would need someone to do my packing though.
Have a wonderful time planning.

When it was leading up to our silver wedding anniversary we had booked a special holiday . It was 7 days in Mali at the Black Parrot hotel with a beachfront apartment with sunken bath and butler then a 7 day safari I can't remember which safari park it was in though I seem to remember it being more than one staying at different types of accommodation then 3days on a luxury catamaran again with butler service where lots of snorkelling was planned and visiting different remote islands and then back to the Black Parrot hotel for a few more days . We had to cancel because I had a stroke and heart attack on the same day. We cancelled it on my 45th birthday (that was not planned its just how it happened) and it broke our hearts to do it .
If I was planning something special now I would make sure we saw the "real country " and not the tourist parts . I would also want to take Simon Reeves with me as he does the most amazing travel shows.

Annsixty, just done it almost. We didn’t go to NZ but did the other 3.

Baltic cruise including Norwegian coast? No queues at airports and lost luggage just a different view from the window each morning. Good food and company too.

annsixty Thu 21-Jun-18 17:59:38

I am very envy Pamela

That's a great idea nanabilly
I hope you manage to go on your dream trip one day

Australia/New Zealand/Antartica then back via Tierra del Fuego - but I want to travel business class so the flights would take up most of that £12,000 hmm

Though I’ve just googled it (a girl can dream grin), and you might have to leave DH at home if you want to do it in style.
