Are you happy now?

Grandad1943 Wed 14-Nov-18 19:55:13

Well, it certainly looks from all that Theresa May stated outside of Downing Street that the cabinet has agreed a document that will keep us in the customs union for several more years.

I believe that customs union agreement is the essential section of this agreement as that will prevent the chaos through the ports that would ensue without such a customs union agreement.

Of course, the agreement still has to pass through parliament, and that is another issue. At least some common sense has prevailed at this point in time, however temporary that may be.

Fennel Wed 14-Nov-18 19:58:28

It's not an agreement it's a proposal.

Fennel Wed 14-Nov-18 19:59:06

To put to the EU.

Grandad1943 Wed 14-Nov-18 20:00:39

Agreed Fennel I should have stated proposal not agreement.

Very long day. confused

lemongrove Wed 14-Nov-18 20:29:07

Listened to T May and am listening to what Barnier says.
This may be the best proposal/ deal ( withdrawal agreement) we can get, the Cabinet agreed it at least, will Parliament agree it?The Cabinet was obviously split on this, which is why it took so long ( I had visions of them all shouting and hitting each other, then sending out for pizza!)
No doubt it will be picked over in the forthcoming days, so we will know all the details. From what I have heard already,
It sounds quite good.

(or is that too French?)

Jalima1108 Wed 14-Nov-18 20:52:38

Anniebach not a proper field mushroom, a supermarket mushroom, kept in the dark and fed on manure (I know you don't like swearing so I won't say shit).

MawBroon Wed 14-Nov-18 20:53:36

Can you say shit if you are talking about Shitake mushrooms?

lemongrove Wed 14-Nov-18 20:56:10

Yes Maw but only if you say it with the appropriate Japanese accent.

Grandad1943 Wed 14-Nov-18 21:01:52

lemongrove, I think TM will need the support of a considerable number of Labour MPs to get this through the House of Commons. However, that may well be forthcoming no matter what the party leadership and whips instruct.

It may well be that Labour remainers in Parliment will consider this proposal/deal is the best that they are likely to get, as against no deal crash out as the alternative.

Well, I am hoping that's what happens anyway (he says looking to the heavens).

lemongrove Wed 14-Nov-18 21:08:15

Yes, I agree with you.

Anniebach Wed 14-Nov-18 21:08:32

Off topic but in the seventies a very elderly lady who owned an island in Scotland but came to live here to be near her son, we use to provide taxies for her, one of our mechanics came back from a booking and said she was going odd, she got more and more strange, i drove out to see her and on her kitchen table was a rather large dish of mushrooms, yep a lady nearly 90 on magic mushrooms , she said she loved picking them and thought them delicious!

MawBroon Wed 14-Nov-18 21:25:05

Just had a look at the BBC News website and I read
leading Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg described it as a "rotten deal

Well that’s a good start to me!

European Parliament Brexit lead Guy Verhofstadt said the agreement "will make a Brexit possible, while maintaining a close relationship between the EU and UK, a protection of citizens' rights and the avoidance of a hard Irish border

Sounding promising too.

PamelaJ1 Wed 14-Nov-18 21:25:13

I wish I had a magic mushroom. I stopped understanding this postquite a few threads ago?

MawBroon Wed 14-Nov-18 21:26:26

Do you not mean “thread quite a few posts ago” confused

Anniebach Wed 14-Nov-18 21:27:39

The Irish PM has paid tribute to Mrs M

PamelaJ1 Wed 14-Nov-18 21:47:28

Send mushrooms ASAP.

I am always concerned about the labels: most people are neither "Brexiteers" nor "Remainers". They are just ordinary people who were faced with a choice based on polarised electioneering and we were not given the facts in an objective manner.

I have always made it clear that I think the referendum itself was entirely wrong in its conception and operation.

There are of course zealots on either side of the argument; but I think they are very much in the minority.

MawBroon Wed 14-Nov-18 21:58:58

? ? ? coming up!
