Oh dear, it's not going well is it?

Anniebach Sun 03-May-20 16:06:21

And with their Father,

Jabberwok Sun 03-May-20 16:07:09

This had occurred to me maddyone!

Chewbacca Sun 03-May-20 17:47:18

how many people would think that a law passed in the time of George 1 would still be on the statute 300 years later

Anyone who was in any way reasonably intelligent enough to apprise themselves of the rules of the dynasty that they were considering marrying into. I would have thought?

trisher Sun 03-May-20 18:00:36

Chewbacca that's ridiculous. I would imagine that the law itself had been forgotten (It was only introduced because all the Georges hated their own children and none more so that George 1) and was only resurrected by some enthusiastic lawyer when Charles and Diana divorced. Are you really suggesting that anyone marrying into the RF should first make a study of English law or is it once again just an attempt to dismiss the idea that actually M might have had a valid reson for leaving the UK?

Anniebach Sun 03-May-20 18:27:22

When Charles and Diana divorced ? Wonder why they were
given joint custody.

If it were true the queen would not have allowed her Grandchildren to holiday with the Fayeds.

Pointless discussion.

Chewbacca Sun 03-May-20 18:31:20

We have to assume that M was intelligent and articulate enough to acquaint herself with the history of the RF when she decided to become embroiled in it. An English law degree wouldn't have been required; but, assuming that she was as savvy before she married H as she's been since, I don't think it unreasonable that she would have taken some small amount of time to have done a little research into its history. As you've demonstrated in your post, a quick Google search has thrown up the RF's traditions. And she knew that she was marrying into a large family with very strict traditions. No one to blame but herself. Ignorance is no defence.

trisher Sun 03-May-20 19:49:46

Even if she knew it doesn't mean she should accept that someone else should have authority over her child. I really think that sometimes people's prejudices overcome their common sense.
Annie that's usual in divorces, only in this case it didn't matter ,legally the monarch can take over any child in the family.

Chewbacca Sun 03-May-20 20:22:29

It's all academic trisher; M & H are the architects of their own misery and have no one but themselves to blame for their current predicament.

Anniebach Sun 03-May-20 21:05:49

I will wait for a link from you trisher. Explaining it was resurrected by solicitors at the time of Charles and Diana’s
divorce.

Namsnanny Sun 03-May-20 22:25:03

That's very true trisher

Just checking in again and yes I have read the same comments about Meghan and harry churned out again and again and on the other thread about them....and on the one before that....
Don’t you get tired of repeating yourselves ? Damn, me too I guess!

I watched suits and she was a major player in that and was quite good in as far as the script allowed, Shakespeare it wasn’t.
The biography must be such good news for GN, more fuel....

maddyone Sun 03-May-20 23:14:58

But who is providing the fuel? Oh yes, it’s Harry and Meghan.

A young friend posted this elsewhere - and I agree

''Wow. Meghan Markle received the most online abuse of any person in the world in 2019.
An actress, who married a bloke from a posh family.
That apparently made more people angry than the actions of any world leader, any politician, any media mogul, any corporate figure, any notorious hate-monger, come to that. More than a member of the royal family accused of involvement in sex trafficking and paedophillia.
Or, correction that made more of the sort of person who likes to abuse people online angry than any of the above. Apart from the bots of course, purposely employed to stir up ‘culture wars’.
Jesus. Have a word with yourself Britain''

Lucca Sat 10-Oct-20 18:57:44

Oh Biba70...thin ice!

Ellianne Sat 10-Oct-20 19:07:42

I think your young friend has missed the point biba.
No one minded that an actress, married a bloke from a posh family. No one minded she was black. No one minded the expensive wedding, the beautiful clothes, the visits abroad. UNTIL the actress turned her back on the posh family and flounced off saying unnecessary things about her hard life and how unwelcoming people were.
The irony is that the author of that post, no doubt Ametican, obviously has little understanding of how let down the people of Great Britain actually felt.

Sparklefizz Sat 10-Oct-20 19:09:54

Well said Ellianne

MissAdventure Sat 10-Oct-20 19:11:24

I agree too, Biba.

Smileless2012 Sat 10-Oct-20 19:14:17

Good post Ellianne

Oopsminty Sat 10-Oct-20 19:16:30

I think Trump beats Meghan to top spot for online abuse and trolling

biba70 Sat 10-Oct-20 19:18:56

American, no a great ex student of mine, and very British indeed.

Galaxy Sat 10-Oct-20 19:34:38

I dont feel let down at all. I would much rather she left if she was unhappy. What kind of person would I be if I wanted her to be forced to stay. I think those who enter into marriages with the royal family seem to end up very unhappy in many cases.

Ellianne Sat 10-Oct-20 19:52:50

Well Harry must feel pretty unhappy too that things didn't turn out as he planned.

"For me, it's an added member of the family.
It's another team player as part of the bigger team, and for all of us."
And didn't he say something like the royal family was "the family she never had"?

merlotgran Sat 10-Oct-20 20:07:35

Jesus. Have a word with yourself Britain

Before you have a bash at the UK yet again, biba I suggest your friend might try and understand what actually annoys the British taxpayer.

Maybe she didn't read the article properly but once again Meghan has used a 'platform', this time a podcast entitled, 'Teenage Therapy' to indulge in some more self pity.

She said: 'I can speak personally because I'm told that in 2019 I was the most trolled person in the entire world - male or female.

Shades of the South African tour?

biba70 Sat 10-Oct-20 20:09:59

My friend is very British- and very much a British tax-payer, and in her late 40s - same age as my daughters.

Sparklefizz Sat 10-Oct-20 20:16:09

Actually I have just googled and Adele was the most trolled celeb in 2019, and in second place was Gemma Collins. Meghan was 3rd.
