Phew! That's sorted then. Putin will withdraw.

JaneJudge Fri 25-Feb-22 13:59:40

I don't think I have ever been to Slough or driven through it but I did watch The Office smile

Anniebach Fri 25-Feb-22 14:01:04

GSM, yes that’s what I meant by controlling Harry, admiration for the controller

Blossoming Fri 25-Feb-22 14:03:48

FannyCornforth it’s one of my favourite poems.

I see this thread took a few twists and turns while I was out getting my hair done.

FannyCornforth Fri 25-Feb-22 14:06:44

You’ve had your hair done again!? grin

Anniebach Fri 25-Feb-22 14:11:29

I think I have been in Slough, if there is a pub St,Christopher I have been

Honestly I really wouldn't have known H&M had said anything about Ukraine had it not come up as a criticism so of course prefering to read it for myself I googled it. One tiny paragraph on their website.
I do like strong women. Don't particularly like red haired blokes, always gone for dark haired, craggy not really handsome ones.
I do think it's a great pity that someone who could have changed things in the RF who was a clever and accomplished young woman chose to make herself into a royal clone wife. It would have been so good if she had pursued a career. Men have done it when they married into the RF. Women in the RF (like Princess Anne) have done it. It's the reason I referred to Kate as a Stepford Wife, in the book they were activists and independent women who were subordinated by men to fit their requirements.

I watched an old Parkinson the other night with John Betjeman on it. He said he was very young when he wrote that poem, I think he regretted it in view of what followed afterwards.

We are just taking the piss out of M&H because, for a variety of reasons, some of them petty, some justifiable, we don’t particularly like them.
Yes, it might be pathetic and shallow and stupid; but that is all it is.
We are not cruel imbeciles

Don't take any notice.
They're trying to cause an argument.
It's pathetic really

Just for the record.

I haven't said anything on here that I wouldn't say to someone's face.

Ditto

Methinks he doth protest too much.

Anniebach Fri 25-Feb-22 14:21:54

trisher you also called Kate a 50’s housewife , you must have
known very different 50’s housewives to me.

Anne has never become involved in politics and has always carried out royal duties without seeking the cameras. I think
your hope for Megan is she will destroy the royal family.

Sparklefizz Fri 25-Feb-22 14:23:25

Gosh! I only started this thread because I was amused by our favourite virtue-signallers popping up to state the bleedin' obvious.

It goes without saying that we all stand with Ukraine, even some of the Russian population. I don't think any of us needed a lecture here.

Now I pop back on the thread to find it has taken some strange diversions. Oh well.... off to watch Netflix instead.

Farzanah Fri 25-Feb-22 14:30:25

So Ukraine is being invaded and for a bit of entertainment we have a thread about Harry and Megan. Suppose it helps to divert the mind.

It's insane!
Gransnetters seem to get in a right ole tizz if someone dares to take the pee out of the RF especially H&M
Who would have thought?
confused

That she should have such power. She has lied in front of the world. Who believes anything that comes from her mouth. Oh yes her fans.

volver Fri 25-Feb-22 14:48:47

Jeez, how wrong can you be.

Maybe someone can clear this up for me...

Am I in a tizz I am a Monarchist or because I am a Republican? Am I a M&H Supporter or a W&K Supporter? Because by the rules of GN you must be one but you can't be both.

Or am I in a tizz because some of my fellow posters think joking about some minor royals in the context of a deadly invasion of a country by a warmongering despot is all just a bit of fun?

Dickens Fri 25-Feb-22 15:13:42

As someone has said, it's a tiny paragraph on their website - and the Daily Mail has made a meal out of it.

Quite a few others have tweeted or twittered, commented on social media platforms, etc... so why even bother to mention it?

I'm not fond of either of these two (nor that interested in them TBH) - but I saw this topic and thought that they must have made some earth-shattering statement when in fact all they've done is what many others have done. And why not?

Sometimes, this ganging-up on high-profile individuals for something so trivial - trivial in the sense that they've just made a simple statement - is just plain nasty and unpleasant. Being hateful for the sake of being hateful.

... and the DM know exactly what they are doing... it's good copy, and they keep the vitriol nicely on the simmer. Ready for the next instalment.

That's it - not a popular view I'm sure but IDC.

Does it ever occur to anyone that the Queen - with her own views and perspective on the H&M saga - might be upset at some of the more spiteful comments about Harry if she read them all - not that I believe she does - the point being, that he is, after all, still her grandson?

Anniebach Fri 25-Feb-22 15:43:55

Yes he is her grandson, someone really should remind him

What I don't understand is why they are called the Cambridge's but don't live in Cambridge. Likewise the Sussex's and York and so on and so forth. Weren't they historically given those titles because they lived there? None of them seem to live where their titles are

Well, the Devonshires don't live in Devon either.

My maiden name is a place name but I've never visited there. Perhaps I could claim the whole Estate.
Just checked it out and my Granny's maiden name is another large property name belonging to the estate.
I really think I'm in with a chance here!

I think she'd be more concerned with the GN thread "Do we really need the monarchy?"

"What an ungrateful lot after I've given over my life to their service! I could have had a lovely life in the country breeding horses were it not for my sense of duty."

... you are missing my point. Which is trying to see things from her perspective.

When someone in your family behaves badly, you don't necessarily adopt the same view or attitude towards them as their colleagues and acquaintances - partly because they are your flesh and blood and also because those outside the family circle perhaps are not privy to all the information, or the private conversations. The Queen might therefore be hesitant to join the throng of Harry-haters who are upset on her behalf. Parents sometimes stand by their miscreant offspring whilst simultaneously condemning their actions.

Does this really need explaining?

Well, "do we need the monarchy" is not exactly a new concept is it? I suspect she's read similar headlines since - oh, just about forever. I'm sure she's astute enough to realise that it's not impossible that it will one day be abolished.

Do you think she loses much sleep over it?

I rather doubt HM reads GN threads.
