And yes. Nothing wrong with right of centre.

Ignore Nicola Sturgeon. She’s just an attention seeker.
(355 Posts)GNHQ have commented on this thread. Read here.
So. The person who is likely to be our next Prime Minister told the party faithful at a hustings in Exeter that the best thing to do about Sturgeon is to ignore her. When told by the moderator that NS was democratically elected to her position, Truss said NS is just an attention seeker. Cue lots of excited clapping and cheering.
This is the woman who is meant to be our senior diplomat, who will be in the company of world leaders. NS was elected by 48% (or so) of the electorate of her country, Truss will inherit the job by getting the votes of something like 0.03% of the electorate. Ignore Sturgeon, you’re ignoring half the population of Scotland and telling them that you know better what’s good for them.
It’s the number one story up here but I don’t know how much its being reported in rUK.
Last week I called her a Welsh carrot. (You had to be there
) But it seems I over estimated her. She’s lost the place, as we say up here.
Good honest post Lauranorder. Nothing wrong with being right of centre, it is being barking mad and ill informed that is frightening. Do you follow Larry the cat on twitter? Well worth a read, he is a good judge of character

Well I meant right of centre, is it still a good post Lucca?
Of course . Your choice.
I am loving this thread now.
And I agree with HousePlantQueen, nothing wrong with being right of centre.

DP and I were talking about potential Sturgeon/Truss meetings this morning. Nicola's going to have to call on all of her skills so as not to make Truss look like an idiot, but quite how she does that when Truss will do all the heavy lifting herself god knows.
Why should she bother ? Liz Truss will be looking like an idiot all the rest of the time anyway.
Of course I agree, but the problem is that in all one-sided matches the public start to back the underdog

Mind you I also smiled at Liz Trusses comments about Nicola Sturgeon

Off out now. I’ll poke my head above the parapet upon my return
Good ol Janey.
……….bet she cant wait for/if Ms Truss ever ventures over the border.
A whole series of fun beckons.
Probably the only thing to look forward to if Truss wins the leadership.
Don’t think Sunak has the same comedy potential.
Is this what passes for humour with Unionists?
Puir wee souls, feeling so got at all the time.

Indeed Petera!
I think Nicola just being herself will show what a pathetic, and indeed worrying choice Liz Truss would be and no amount of skilful behaviour from Nicola will mask this and in any case why should she 'call on all her skills' to make LT not look like an idiot. It would be in Scotland's interests for her to look as awful as she is... then even more people here would realise that independence really is the only sane way forward for Scotland.
Nicola will conduct herself with decorum and intelligence, as she always does, even under duress, and it will highlight her skills and integrity quite naturally.
To start a potential new relationship already having a stab at the leader of another country is just another proof of how little Westminster Tories care for anywhere else but England! It feels sometimes like they see the other countries in the UK as some sort of provincial outcrops whose opinions and needs have little relevance or deserve respect.

Vaguely know he is a comedian so I don't know presume he is offensive
Did ask my DH who said he is very dry so will have to do a Google
I thought that was funny too.
Bit of entertainment on a dreary Wednesday morning ?

Thanks tickingbird that gave me a laugh while having my morning cuppa. Many a true word spoken in jest as they say.
Liz Truss only saying what a lot of us think South of the border. I heard Sturgeon is called Elsie MacSelfie in Scotland. Love Scotland was there a few weeks ago visited Isle of Arran, Girvan, Oban to name but a few places.

What are the people ‘South of the border’ of your acquaintance say about Liz Truss Maudi, I’d love to know?
It does not matter what you think of Nicola Sturgeon- NO (possibly future) PM should say such things about another Head of State.

Quite agree.

In Wales we say she's a carrot.
Thats a new on on me Maudi I have seen Nicola out and about and its mainly the people who are asking HER for selfies .She is exceptionally popular amongst a lot of people .
There were even children asking for Nicola dolls for Christmas...lol
She's very approachable and frankly I cant see what "Englands" issue is with her ..as a person.Maybe you dont like women who are intelligent ,articulate AND friendly .Who knew that doing the job you are paid to do and doing it fairly well ona FIXED BUDGET while having to mitigate the effects of tory policies by hundreds of millions of £ a year is something you wouldn't want to have yourselves.
I heard Sturgeon is called Elsie MacSelfie in Scotland.
Only by the rather obsessed ones. ? There is a very odd person who always seems to turn up on the letters pages of certain newspapers who is consumed with hatred for the independence movement. And who managed to report NS for breaking Covid restrictions even though she was 150 miles away at the time... (No case to answer, incidentally)

Oh, there's a whole thread.

You'd think Truss would know exactly what an attention seeker looks like by now:
Scruffy. Blond deliberately unkempt hair. Will take any opportunity going to dress up in a silly outfit for a pre-arranged photo opportunity. Sought to endear himself to the masses through appearances on 'popular' TV shows such as HIGNFY, and by stunts such as getting stuck on a zipline. Aspires to be world king ...
Doesn't sound like NS to me!
is just another proof of how little Westminster Tories care for anywhere else but England
Actually Phillippa111, all the Westminster Tories care about is their own party, staying in power, doing the bidding of their donors.
Please everyone, do stop lumping everyone living South of the Border into one homogenous Tory voting, Brexit supporting lump. Many, many of us are appalled at what is happening, and only the totally unaware or deluded would think any of this is a good thing.
I can only assume that paddyann and volver lives in a completely different Scotland from the one where I live. Nothing of what they say chimes with my experience of life here.
Good luck to whoever wins the Tory leadership election and pledges to run the country for the benefit of all parts of it. Until the next election of course!
