Just listened to it. It made my blood run cold…sad

HousePlantQueen Wed 05-Oct-22 15:27:37

Frankly, her speech was chilling and wouldn't have been out of place in the 1930s. I despise people like her who pull up the ladder which got them and their parents where they are, I am deeply insulted, as a citizen, that after giving her parents economic sanctuary, she is deciding that I will not longer be permitted to do this for anyone else. I hate even more people like Braverman, Patel, Zadawi who stand there confident that because they are members of the BAME community (hollow laugh) they feel able to say what they like without fear of being accused of racism. These vile, cruel people do not represent me or my family, and the sooner they are voted out of office the better. I am so angry I can barely speak about this, and deeply ashamed of my country for allowing these words to be spoken by an elected representative

Curtaintwitcher that’s a disgraceful post as is yours jennifereccles
I can’t bear to argue any more with such racist inhuman views
A lot of these immigrants so despised by these ‘english racist’ are doctors nurses care workers who could end up working for the NHS desperately needed

This resonates with Enoch Powel and his rivers of blood we have moved no where we have not evolved in any way what so ever, hideous, hideous inhuman people

HousePlantQueen ??? You speak for me - brilliant post.thanks

A dear friend of mine fosters young asylum seekers. The latest young woman (16) watched her parents shot in front of her.

I am glad that she was not sent to Rwanda.

Surely we cannot be a civilised nation if we have no compassion.

A good proportion of the people arriving from over the channel are said to be Albanian. Albania is a country hoping to join the EU and cannot be said to in conflict. Advertised on Tik tok , cut price offers, by it would appear Albanian smugglers with a view to criminality in this country. Surely no one on here can condone these blatant acts of lawlessness. The French to be fair are doing their best to police an ever expanding coast line, and great efforts are being made on both sides of the channel to break up these gangs. However ,there is allegedly more money to be made by people smuggling than drug running, so unfortunately these gangs won't be broken up any time soon.

LizzieDrip Wed 05-Oct-22 18:01:53

So Jaberwok who do you suggest have criminal intentions in the UK - the people smugglers or the immigrants themselves? Your post doesn’t make it clear which.

Jaberwok Wed 05-Oct-22 18:42:21

'Security services fear the rising number of Albanians crossing the channel could be helping to bolster criminal gangs'. The Times -26th August 2022. The criminality of the trafficking gangs speaks for itself.

573,000.00 immigrants came to Britain in 2021 alone. It’s nothing to with who they are. It’s numbers. A million visas were given out last year. How many people do you think, with our limited resources and land we can sustain? 100m, 150m. Also it means different cultures are coming in who are not necessarily wanting to assimilate to how we do things. I think a lot of you need to think what’s it’s going to be like for our grandchildren. Surely with the people we have with the right education we can sort ourselves out. We are bringing in Ukrainians. A lot will not go back. Hong Kong citizens and afghans. You would think , reading this we don’t have anyone coming to this country. The Conservatives want to bring more people in , they are not going to cut down immigration.but they cut down on places for our children for university to fill the NHS jobs etc.

573,000.00 immigrants came to Britain in 2021 alone.
And 334,000 people left, leaving a net increase of quarter of a million.

A million visas were given out last year. If a million visas were given out and 573,000 people came, what happened to the other 427,000 people? Perhaps you can check your numbers.

How many people do you think, with our limited resources and land we can sustain? 100m, 150m. Even if we were to assume that net migration stays at the same level forever, which it won’t of course, it will take 130 years to reach 100 million. I going to hazard a guess that the world will have changed quite a bit by 2150 – maybe by as much as it has since 1890.

Also it means different cultures are coming in who are not necessarily wanting to assimilate to how we do things. I’ve just been for a curry. I won’t add anything to that, I’m sure you can work out what I mean.

I think a lot of you need to think what’s it’s going to be like for our grandchildren. That’s quite patronising, don’t you think? What will it be like? If we try not to accept any more immigration, we’ll be stuck in a sort of 1970s fever dream of good old Blighty, with Britannia ruling the waves, but we’ll actually be some kind of isolated and ignored version of North Korea that nobody wants to visit or live in, except those who find the wider world all a bit scary.

The Conservatives want to bring more people in, they are not going to cut down immigration, but they cut down on places for our children for university to fill the NHS jobs etc. I have no idea what that means. Any help?

Oldnproud Wed 05-Oct-22 20:41:33

I found this woman's comment about it being her dream to see immigrants sent to Rwanda truly shocking and sickening.

I have a feeling that that was her deliberate intention, but to me, that makes it all the more worrying.

What, just what, have we come to?

Grany Wed 05-Oct-22 20:47:49

Rachel Reeves Labour said the Tories are not deporting Enough asylum seekers.

No media coverage of the Labour Files documentaries by Aljazeera

I want rid of the Tory government
Will vote labour

MayBee70 Wed 05-Oct-22 21:19:56

volver. They’re cutting down on university places because they know they’re going to lose the next election so they want Labour to inherit a situation where the country is even more short of doctors than we are now.

volver Wed 05-Oct-22 21:33:13

Thanks MayBee70. What next...

Jaberwok Wed 05-Oct-22 22:06:57

No thoughts on the criminal gangs??!! No I thought not, just Tory bashing on here s usual.

volver Wed 05-Oct-22 22:18:45

Yes. Criminal gangs? The best way to avoid them operating is to either have legal ways for asylum seekers to cross the Channel, or have the asylum seekers processed by UK officials on the other side of the Channel. Remove their market.

But that doesn't suit the dogma, does it?

MaizieD Wed 05-Oct-22 22:23:59

I don't think she belongs in the Labour Party, Grany. She said awful things about the unemployed a while ago, didn't she?
(I don!t think her economics is particularly good, either, but hope she is just playing the 'responsible with your money' game for the media)

That's not quite what Rachel Reeves said.

She said that claims should be processed more quickly and failed asylum seekers should be deported if they have no right to be here, for the sake of those who have a genuine right to asylum.

So the UK needs to invest more in Border Force and the National Crime Agency.

It seems a good distraction for what is happening in your health system etc. Mobilise all the nastiness and focus it elsewhere on those who cannot answer back. Horrible. You need to vote the buggers out.

growstuff Wed 05-Oct-22 23:35:03

In 2022, a record number of students started undergraduate courses at British universities.

The government wants to reduce places on undergraduate course because they're expensive. They're actually trying to encourage students to study more "vocational" options. The courses which are suffering from funding cuts are those in the arts and social sciences.

There are all sorts of reasons why courses for medics can't be increased quickly.

Universities are encouraged to take overseas students because they pay much higher fees - in many cases three times the amount of home students. Higher education has been marketised and it's a success story as far as imports are concerned.

Mobilise all the nastiness - yep, that just about sums up the current strategy!

Sorry had to work yesterday. No jumping the shark. And I dont need to be told to read it again I read it. It's the left's racism, different to the rights but racism none the less, and they get to think they are the good guys. Pretty much the same tone as the labour MP who said the chancellor didnt sound black. You are nodding along with people not being allowed into positions of power because you are ascribing particular personal motivations based on where they come from. It's not great.

Galaxy Thu 06-Oct-22 07:33:55

Or where their parents come from rather.

volver Thu 06-Oct-22 07:50:35

We disagree.

I think people who despise immigrants shouldn't be in charge of immigration policy. I think the children of immigrants who despise immigrants are probably displaying some deep rooted personal issues. Either that, or they are just wicked people. I'm not a psychologist. Some things don't need you to be a psychologist to understand them.

Either way, they shouldn't be in charge of immigration policy.
