My nephew aged 9 was watching celebrity family fortunes the other day and apparently very disappointed that our family couldn't enter as we have no celebs amongst our number grin
Just wondering if any posters have well known relatives or friends?

Yes, I have a famous nephew but although I’m sure he wouldn’t object to having his name posted, it would identify me, and I’d rather remain anonymous

No, not me either.

That was a lovely idea but there's a problem with people being identified through their famous connection!

I would love to be invited to meet up with a famous relative, on DNA Journey for instance. Martin and Roman Kemp met up with some cousins who were thrilled to meet them and be related to them. I don't think it will happen for me though ?

Yes, I have a cousin ( my late dad's brother's son ) who lives in New York. His life story is online but like TrendyNannie6 said, it would make me recogniseable.
He himself obviously wouldn't mind.

Yep! Famous American war correspondent and author who was based in Paris at that time and wrote for The New Yorker. I was named after her. Met her in Rome when I was living there and she'd come to Rome for her annual medical. After that first meeting we kept in touch. I have her books on my shelves now. When she died she left me $$$ "for travelling"....and so I did!grin

Yes, very famous politician. His wife is American.

I think I know - you’ve given away clues before which to me as a political animal jumped out. My lips are sealed ?

My great aunt who was known as Kitty Breakes was murdered on Blackpool beach in 1919. She was a very beautiful woman and was seduced by a handsome soldier. He arranged to meet her on the beach at Xmas eve and shot her 3 times. He later claimed insanity but was found guilty and hanged at strangeways prison. He hired a famous lawyer to defend him.
A Blackpool band called Phantom Voices has recorded a song about her and there are a few poems around.
The event and trial which my grandmother had to give evidence at was so awful that it was never mentioned again and my mother wasn't told about it till she was in her 60s. Fortunately a distant cousin paid for a researcher to look into it and we have copies of all of the trial notes and legal documents.
I love the story and think it would make a great tv play.

I have a cousin who is a famous cyclist? Does that count. He won many races internationally but is now retired. I think that’s it??

annsixty Sun 28-Mar-21 13:56:43

Not a single one although I have two cousins who are very rich.
Well I could still have two, one cut us off when she married and as she is older than me she may no longer be alive.
We will never know.

suziewoozie Sun 28-Mar-21 13:59:15

MN do threads on connections with favourite people - sometimes on ( excuse MN language) Have you shagged anyone famous ??

suziewoozie Sun 28-Mar-21 14:01:19

Famous not favourite ???

Beswitched Sun 28-Mar-21 14:06:32

Actually now I think of it I believe we're distantly related to Barbara Hutton of Woolworths fame, dubbed the 'poor little rich girl'. Unfortunately we only inherited the 'poor' part grin

Crikey!!
Watch what you write, suziewoozie has a very good memory and guesses people from months ago without even having said the name. Very perceptive. I am impressed! But had better tread carefully.

No we have no famous celebs in our family. My cousins son is a singer and he was on Britains Got Talent a couple of years ago. He done well and came 2nd and was just pipped at the winning post by one of the other contestants.

My brother in law played in a very successful 60s band. Sadly, he left the band to follow a career as a civil engineer shortly before they hit the big time!!

Grannybags Sun 28-Mar-21 14:09:40

My relative was the last person to be hung for sheep stealing.

Does that count?!

It’s because I’m a political geek and store away a mountain of facts of all types about politicians. I’d guessed months ago but would never had said then or now.

Yes, writers, a motorcycle racer and a mountaineer. Though they may only be famous to people in their sphere of interest.
