On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears and Apples who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all. I am so grateful you have stayed so loyal and been such good friends to us all.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my way of life.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

Our mantra is - Eat Less for Life.

I’m scared to weigh myself. I know I’ve put weight on because I’m all squidgy round my waist. I am dog sitting at my daughters next week and hope to go to the gym. I’m really annoyed with myself.

silverlining48 Tue 14-Feb-23 15:42:31

I have struggled with my weight since my (now middle aged) children were young. I put off /forgot to weigh myself years ago and when I did remember to my horrr I had gained over a stone.
So dont be cross with yourself Maybe, take the bull by the horns and weigh yourself now. You know it makes sense and before Anyone says they can tell if they have gained just by the tightness of their clothes, it diesnt work fir me as mine arent that tight in the first place, so by the time they start to feel a bit snug its already too late and the damage is done.

silverlining48 Tue 14-Feb-23 15:43:47

Ps I am squidgy all over MayBe. grin

Whiff Wed 15-Feb-23 06:23:47

After losing 7st I am squidgy and flabby but I have embraced those bits as I would rather they be like that than tight with fat.

As I have said many times losing weight is a marathon not a sprint . I still want to lose just over a stone and have been trying to lose it for 2 years now. But if I lose, put on or stay the same I don't give up . I have been eating less for life as NanKate renamed dieting since 2017 and if it takes me years one day I will get to 11st. The important thing is don't give up if you have a bad day start again the next. I have become so obsessed with weight ,measuring every thing I eat and drink and count calories I even do it if I over eat . At least that way I know how much over I am.

You have to eat 3,500 less calories a week to lose 1lb. I found it easier to lose weight when I first started at over 19st than I do at just over 12st. But I am happy if I only lose quarter of a pound a week. I was size 32 now 14/16 top but like to wear 16 and 16 bottom.

Remember you are never to old to lose weight and measure yourself especially if you exercise. As mad as it sounds I started to exercise once I was 15.5 st and after a few months put weight on but stuck to my calorie allowance but had lost inches. Muscle weights more than fat.

Remember to be kind to yourself. I know foods I have no control over so don't buy them unless have visitors and know they will be eaten.

If losing weight was easy we would all be a size 12 but it's not. As I said main thing is not to give up and be kind to yourself. And love yourself.

You have done brilliantly and are so right Whiff. It’s never too late.
I have learned over the decades how hard it is but managed to keep a 2 stone loss at bay fir 10 years but recently it’s started to creep back. I won’t allow it and my goal is also to be 11 stones something too. That might be 11.13 though!smile

NanKate Wed 15-Feb-23 07:48:25

Sensible advice as ever Whiff.

SachaMac Wed 15-Feb-23 09:43:41

I used to buy multi packs of chocolate when they were on offer to put in the treat tin for when the grandchildren visit Whiff You can guess who raided it in an evening. I just buy single treats now. You’re right it’s better not to have them in the house. I never used to be such a sweet tooth but then they say sugar is addictive, the more you have the more you want.
I’m going to take your advice & face the scales in the morning silverlining48 as you say, better to take the bull by the horns otherwise the lbs just creep on and up.

MayBee70 Wed 15-Feb-23 10:41:43

I’ll face the scales tomorrow, too. Perhaps we can all console each other and then regroup and get a grip again*! I’m dog sitting at my daughters house next week and might be able to focus on diet and healthy eating.
*I speaking for myself I really have lost the plot….

fourormore Fri 17-Feb-23 10:01:56

I'm totally with you MayBee so many of us are struggling - I know I have lost a couple of pounds over the past three weeks but I have really put the effort in so it is very difficult no to give up!
Huge hugs to you and all my fellow strugglers! flowersflowersflowers

MayBee70 Fri 17-Feb-23 16:25:48

Well I did the scales. I have put on half a stone: not quite as bad as I thought. Will start the 16:8 diet tomorrow.

TillyTrotter Fri 17-Feb-23 17:11:47

Never mind MayBee it’s a bit like “Return to Go” in Monopoly.
We all know what we need to do to kickstart the weight loss again and it does get easier I find after the first week when you see a pound or two come off. 💐

NanKate Sat 18-Feb-23 07:43:17

I agree Tilly it’s getting started that is the problem, but we all know for our long term health we need to attain a reasonable weight.

Onwards and Downwards Pears and Apples. 👎

MayBee70 Sun 19-Feb-23 09:25:20

House sitting at my daughters. She has things like biscuits, crisps and Nutella ( shock). Being very tired I had a bit of a binge yesterday but, having slept for hours I’m ready to spend the next 6 days eating well and doing the 16:8 diet. I hope that will be a bit of a kick start.

Whiff Sun 19-Feb-23 11:04:07

Morning Pears weigh the same which I am glad of as had overeaten on Friday and Saturday. For some reason I craved sugary things even eat jam out of the jar. Always craved sugary things before a period but I had a total hysterectomy when I was 38 now 64. So not idea why? Good job I haven't got any chocolate or ice cream in or that would have gone. Well today's a new start .

Started a pain flare this morning but will just take the extra pain killer and it will be go in a few days. Still going to exercise class tomorrow and craft on Thursday. No matter how I feel I still go as always feel better afterwards. It's important that we keep our bodies and minds active. Because of my HPX limits me doing things usual way be over the years learnt to do things my way. And that's what we all have to do. I know some here have health problems and you like me must have found ways to live a full life but your way. It's like eating less we all have to find a way that suits us we are all unique .

I love meeting new people and love reading about everyone is up to here and on other threads.

My HPX group has helped me so much there is more information there than in any text book. Everyone is willing to share their story and I always get my questions answered and hopefully what I say helps others. We know more about HPX than our neurologists so in a way we are teaching them.

My week for taking baking in to craft group. Decided to make marmalade cake. I made some with Seville oranges which I am pleased with.

Have a good week everyday.

MayBee70 Sun 19-Feb-23 11:42:48

I crave carbs and sweet things when I’m tired. This is what happened to me yesterday. I was eating Nutella by the spoonful! And having biscuits with my tea and coffee. When I was young I would overeat just before my period. It was years before I noticed a pattern forming. I wish I could have known so many things back then that I know now eg orange juice, herbal teas and having a lie in on Saturdays used to give me migraines. Today, having slept well last night I’m eating really healthily. Post menopause the migraines went away.

fourormore Sun 19-Feb-23 13:21:29

I have hit the biscuits as well MayBee70 and like you I think it is tiredness that causes the lapse in willpower. We had a stressful beginning to the week with a few family matters but then a lovely visit from long term friends that we've not seen for years! That was great but we had to go for a meal and we all enjoyed it - me too well!
Todays result is UP 0.8lb - not surprising but it could have been worse so it's back on the wagon tomorrow! (today is Sin-day!)

VioletSky Sun 19-Feb-23 13:32:02

Hi all, I've come back to this thread as I think my physical health needs some tlc.

With recent weight gain I have 2 stone to lose to be within a healthy BMI.

My body really needs help, I'm calcium and iron deficient and I haven't been eating well or exercising.

I want to change for good this time

AGAA4 Sun 19-Feb-23 13:51:40

After a 7.5 mile walk this week and a cutting down on food I was looking forward to my weigh in thinking I should have lost a little bit of weight but no, the scales hadn't budged.
I was hoping I would see a 9. I haven't seen that number for a long time!

TillyTrotter Sun 19-Feb-23 14:55:42

Salad and soft fruit weather is coming and we will find a natural swing away from the stodgy stuff that appeal to us in wintertime.
I only weigh once a week as once initial pounds fall off it is much more of a long game.

MayBee70 Sun 19-Feb-23 15:03:51

I’m going to use my sauna blanket tonight as well: something I haven’t been able to do for quite a while. After this week I’m going to go to the gym again. Still scared of catching covid but no longer anything in the calendar that would be affected by me being poorly ie no child or dog minding for the forseeable future. Had celery soup for dinner and having avocado on toast for tea. Then doing a fast till tomorrow.

VioletSky Sun 19-Feb-23 16:29:20

Scary scale says 11 stone 13 pounds for me

So target slightly under 10 stone. Let's go!

VioletSky Sun 19-Feb-23 17:41:00

OK so as I'm a pound less than last week

Here is how I will record. No short or long term goals or pressure smile

Shirleyw Mon 20-Feb-23 04:34:57

I’m up by 1 and a quarter pounds 😕…. Went out for dinner yesterday …full blown roast…….also a couple of choc cookies I made, and they were on the large size 🙄….shall blame that lol.
Yes tilly summer foods on there way, something to look forward to.

Shinamae Mon 20-Feb-23 10:04:07

After losing 4lb in a week a month ago (because I had five teeth out, and a top denture fitted!)
I have now put all 4lb on in that time feeling a bit despondent but reading your contributions gives me hope especially you Whiff with all your suffering. Bless you…💐💐

MayBee70 Mon 20-Feb-23 10:13:19

Did. 15 hour fast: first one for two months. I need to do some exercise now but I’m binge watching Happy Valley ( all three series). I think I’m back on track. For a while at least.
